Job Description:
APPOINTMENT: August 2020. The WIU Department of Theatre & Dance seeks an individual to serve as Instructor of Dance.

RESPONSIBILITIES: This position will teach various levels of dance technique (ballet, modern, jazz, tap, musical theatre dance) and related courses which may include dance composition, dance history, and other special topics in dance. Candidates must possess strong choreographic skills specifically suited to Musical Theatre. In addition to teaching expectations, this position serves the thriving Western Illinois University Signature Musical Theatre BFA Program and must have knowledge of Musical Theatre Dance as well as a willingness to choreograph Musical Theatre Productions and serve as faculty co-advisor to the University Dance Theatre student organization. Other job responsibilities include curriculum development, recruitment, professional service, as well as expectations to develop a peer-reviewed body of research and/or creative activity. Active and sustained participation in professional growth and service to the university is expected.

Requirements:
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Master's degree or comparable educational degree. Maintaining currency in dance technique required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: A preferred candidate is a faculty and student advocate who exhibits the following: Masters of Fine Arts in Dance as well as professional dance credits in performance and choreography. Certification in a variety of dance genres is a plus.

For a degree to be considered, it must be conferred from a regionally accredited degree-granting institution of higher education (or equivalent from an international accrediting body). Unless otherwise stated, the degree must be"in hand" at the time of application.

THE DEPARTMENT:The Department of Theatre and Dance offers the BA in Theatre with options in performance and production design, the BFA in Musical Theatre, and the MFA in acting, directing or design, and minors in Dance and Theatre. A Department Chair, fourteen faculty members, a technical director, a costume shop supervisor, and an office manager serve approximately 75 undergraduate majors and 25 graduate students. Three theatres (proscenium, thrust, and flexible) are used for theatre productions. The University has completed the design phases for a new Center for Performing Arts. WIU-Macomb, IL (Student Population: 6,432): A traditional, residential four-year campus with offering a comprehensive slate of undergraduate and graduate programs, including a doctorate in education, WIU-Macomb is located in the heart of west central Illinois in Macomb (population 20,000). Amtrak provides twice-daily service from Macomb to Chicago (and point in-between). Macomb is located approximately 75 miles from the Quad Cities International Airport (Moline, IL) and 70 miles from the Greater Peoria Regional Airport (Peoria, IL).

WIU-Quad Cities (Student Population: 1,192): The only public university in the Quad Cities area, WIU-QC offers select undergraduate and graduate programs, including a doctorate in education and a doctorate in environmental studies, at its metropolitan, non-residential campus in Moline, IL.
