We are searching for an experienced Speech Instructor - Part-time at our Santa Maria Campus facility.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Part-time Speech Instructor

Languages and Communication Department

Allan Hancock College is accepting applications for part-time instructors to establish a pool of qualified candidates to teach for the fall semester. As positions for part-time instructors in the speech communication open, the department will select instructors from the established pool.

In its desire to select outstanding faculty members from the largest possible pool of qualified applicants, Allan Hancock College recognizes candidates may have attained expertise in a discipline through a variety of means. Certain combinations of education, experience, and other accomplishments in the field may be judged by the district as equal to the stated minimum qualifications for this position. Candidates who feel they possess such equivalent qualifications are encouraged to complete the equivalency form and provide appropriate documentation of their qualifications.

SALARY:

  • Lecture Rate: $46.98 to $71.93 per hour depending upon education and experience

  • Lab Rate: $40.91 to $62.63 per hour depending upon education and experience

  • Activity and Non-Classroom Rate: $30.23 to $47.18 per hour depending upon education and experience

Applicants will be assessed on the breadth and depth of education, training, experience, skills, knowledge and abilities. A limited number of applicants will be invited for an interview at the college at their own expense. All interviewed candidates may be asked to complete job related exercises. The district reserves the right to cancel any appointment or to reassign the area of service, extend time limits, reinitiate, or withdraw the recruitment/selection process at any time.

    Required Qualifications:

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    Speech

    Master's in speech, speech broadcasting, telecommunications, rhetoric, communication, communication studies, speech communication, or organizational communication;

    OR

    bachelor's in any of the above

    AND

    master's in drama/theater arts, mass communication, or English;

    OR

    the equivalent per Board Policy 7211.

    Special Qualification: Evidence of a sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of staff and students and to staff and students with disabilities.
