Job Description

The Campus School at Boston College is located in Newton, Massachusetts on the Boston College Campus within Campion Hall, the Lynch School of Education. The University setting provides access for the program to libraries including the School of Education's Educational Resource Center, the Recreation Complex state of the art swimming pool, media technology center, and an outdoor playground and leisure area. The school was founded in 1970 to provide special education and related services to
students with severe multiple disabilities. The program provides student centered, educational, therapeutic, and health care services in a school based setting to promote student growth in a stimulating environment using challenging instruction tailored
to the needs of the individual. An integrated service delivery model is emphasized to address the full range of student needs
across all environments, maximizing opportunities for carryover of all student goals and objectives throughout the day.

Responsibilities:

The primary role of the special education teacher is the facilitation of the care and management of appropriate educational, therapeutic and health care for each student in the classroom as indicated in each student's Individual Education Program (IEP). This includes

  • completing daily lesson plans
  • quarterly progress reports
  • educational assessments
  • data collection
  • IEP strengths and weaknesses and goals and objectives
  • work towards and completion of MCAS-Alternative Assessment
  • Responsible for using innovative approaches, and instructional strategies, including the effective use of technologies, to
    increase student learning and confidence to learn.
  • work as part of a transdisciplinary team in order to develop instructional and therapeutic strategies and practices that promote optimal learning opportunities for each student
  • chair of a weekly classroom team meeting with all service delivery team members to discuss each student's progress, monitor goals and objectives and upcoming IEP meetings
  • participate in bi-weekly trainings and professional development
  • act as a liaison to parents and local agencies and participates in the transition process
  • additional responsibilities include the supervision, training and evaluation of teaching assistants and Boston College PULSE students and the organization and planning for Boston College student employees and volunteers in the classroom
  • supports the mission of the Boston College Campus School




Requirements

Required Knowledge and Experience:

One to two years' experience working with students with severe multiple disabilities. Experience with curriculum development, adaptation and modification of curriculum, the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and MCAS Alternative Assessment

1. Bachelor's Degree, Master's degree in Severe Special Education preferred

2. Appropriate MA Teacher's Licensure (Severe Special Needs - All Levels)

3. SEI Endorsement

SALARY: Commensurate with experience

WORK YEAR: Teachers' work year (198 days)
