Professor of Practice: Director of Online Education for Learning and Teaching

Department Description:

The Department of Learning and Teaching and USD have a strong commitment to diversity and to global education. Faculty candidates should be committed to working with diverse students and populations and interesting in fostering community engagement at the local, national, and global levels. The department has developed strong collaborative relationships with local schools and districts to provide an array of practicum, student teaching, and action research sites. In addition, all graduate students are required to participate in at least one global education experience prior to graduation.


Detailed Description:

The Department of Learning and Teaching in the School of Leadership and Education Sciences at the University of San Diego seeks a dynamic, energetic, and skilled educator to serve as Professor of Practice (POP)/Director of Online Education. In this role, the faculty member will provide instructional and administrative leadership for the department's growing online education ventures.

The Professor of Practice and Director of Online Programs for Learning and Teaching will teach courses in the online MED and PHD in Education for Social Justice programs in the Department of Learning and Teaching, and coordinate and administer both programs. The POP will work with SOLES faculty, the Center for Design Innovation in Learning (CDIL), and Professional and Continuing Education to ensure the success of our online programs and to deliver the highest quality, online, graduate education experience. In addition to their instructional role, the POP will support student admissions, oversee all orientation activities (including developing orientation courses), provide program advising, monitor and support student progress towards degree, coordinate student academic-support services, and respond to the myriad needs of online students. The Professor of Practice will support online faculty; monitor and support course development; coordinate program communications; collect, analyze and report program-data and provide leadership on best practices of online graduate education. This is a three-year contracted position with potential for renewal.


Job Requirements:

Requirements for the position include:
  • Doctoral degree in Education or a related field.
  • Leadership and/or expertise in online education;
  • Teaching and advising experience at the graduate level;
  • Commitment to departmental priorities including social justice, equity, diversity and inclusion; Candidates should describe how they bring diversity and inclusion into their teaching, advising, and scholarly work.
