Detailed Position Description:

We are looking for a faculty member to teach and advise students in the CACREP accredited Counseling program, in the Department of Counseling & Marital and Family Therapy (CMFT) at USD's School of Leadership and Education Sciences (SOLES). This position is a three year contracted position, beginning Academic Year 2018-2019 with the possibility of extension.

Specific responsibilities include:
  • Teaching 7 courses across each year (summer and intersession courses can count towards load). Preference for applicants with the expertise to teach at least some of the following courses: COUN 502 Professional Orientation, Law & Ethics, COUN 508 Research Methods, COUN 530 Assessment, COUN 541 Advanced Diagnosis and Treatment Planning, and COUN 547 Risk and Trauma.
  • Individual and group student advising regarding practicum placements, career paths, and scholarly research activities.
  • Contributions to university, school, and departmental service including program outreach, student orientation, admissions, and other activities to be determined.

    Job Requirements:

    Requirements for the position include:
  • A strong track record of and interest in teaching graduate level courses; Candidates should provide evaluations from students (and peers if available);
  • Commitment to departmental priorities including social justice, diversity and inclusion, and evidence-based counseling practices; Candidates should provide evidence of diversity and inclusion principles within their teaching, advising, and scholarly work;
  • Counseling practice experience and clinical licensure (or licensure eligibility);
  • Ability and interest in advising graduate students on program progress, practicum placements, scholarly research, and career pathways.
    Required academic qualifications:
  • Doctoral degree in a mental health discipline with preference for training in counselor education from a CACREP accredited program.
