Employment Opportunity

This full-time, (100%) Outreach and Recruitment Coordinator plans, coordinates, performs and evaluates outreach and recruitment services and partnerships in support of enrollment management goals and plans; serves as primary liaison between Cabrillo departments and local community groups, as well as the general student populations.

In addition, an Outreach and Recruitment Coordinator position eligibility pool may be established in order to fill other full-time, part-time, or substitute assignments as needs arise.

The ideal candidate will share Cabrillo's commitment to educating its racially and socioeconomically diverse student population. Cabrillo College serves approximately 11,400 students per term, of which 45.13% are LatinX, 5.26% multi-ethnic, 2.64% Asian, 1.25% African-American, 0.79% Filipino, 0.30% American Indian or Alaskan Native, and 0.18% Pacific Islander as of Fall 2018. At Cabrillo, 56.66% of students are students of color and 54.91% are economically disadvantaged. In 2006, Cabrillo College was designated a Hispanic-Serving Institution, reflecting the great responsibility that the College has to the educational attainment and economic well-being of the surrounding community.

Examples of Duties

  • Coordinates, plans, develops, recommends and implements policies and procedures related to high school, middle school, elementary school, life-long learning and re-entry student outreach
  • Works closely with College programs that provide programs-specific outreach in order to develop comprehensive and coordinated outreach plans and recruitment activities that result in the reduction of duplicative efforts
  • Coordinates Cabrillo events and outreach activities with area high schools, middle schools and elementary schools which bring superintendents, principals and school staff together for dialog on mutual interests
  • Serves as primary liaison between the College and local high school faculty and administrative personnel
  • Collaborates with Cabrillo's Tech Prep and ROP Offices to identify, facilitate completion of, and annually update high school Tech Prep/ROP articulations
  • Provides updates to the college, high school and student information sites
  • Works closely with College's Articulation Office to provide seamless transition among high school, two-year, and four-year articulations
  • Works with college staff, school administrators and faculty to plan, coordinate and implement the outreach program to various school populations, including events such as high school visitations, campus tours, career days and programs for specific disciplines
  • Surveys participants to obtain feedback, analyzes results and makes recommendations to improve or enhance future events
  • Works cooperatively and effectively with individuals and students of diverse ethnic and educational backgrounds and with various segments of the college community
  • Recruits faculty, staff and college students to represent College programs and services for outreach events and activities
  • Plans a master calendar of outreach activities to the general high school, middle school and elementary school population
  • Manages high school articulation and outreach budget
  • Provides assistance to committees and councils (i.e. High School Articulation Council)
  • Designs and coordinates the on-campus tour program
  • Provides direct services to students
  • Trains and directs the work of temporary and student workers
  • Develops and maintains databases
  • Operates a computer to compile data, maintain records, and prepare correspondence, reports, and other written material using a variety of software such as word processing, spreadsheet, database, and website management
  • Prepares promotional materials, correspondence, reports, applications, minutes and other written materials related to high school outreach and high school articulation
  • May provide bilingual and/or biliterate services to monolingual and limited English-speaking students
  • May attend conferences, meetings, and workshops, as appropriate
  • Performs related duties as required or assigned


Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Associate's degree from an accredited college or university OR equivalent units AND three (3) years of experience working with outreach and recruitment programs INCLUDING one (1) year in a lead or coordinating capacity.

Please note: Additional education may be substituted for the experience on a year-for-year basis up to two (2) years.

Desirable:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish

Knowledge of:

  • Program planning, development, implementation, and coordination
  • Basic goals and functions of an educational institution
  • Outreach procedures and practices
  • Sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and the community
  • Budget management
  • Computer applications related to the work, including development and maintenance of databases, websites, word processing and spreadsheets
  • Standard office practices and procedures, including filing and the operation of standard office equipment
Ability to:
  • Plan, organize and carry out events and activities
  • Represent the College in meetings with community groups and agencies serving the local high school, middle school, and elementary school populations
  • Make effective public presentations
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of the work
  • Organize work, attend to details, set priorities and meet critical deadlines
  • Maintain detailed and accurate records and files
  • Prepare reports, correspondence, and other written materials
  • Prepare announcements and promotional materials
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Exercise initiative and sound judgment within established guidelines
  • Design and maintain computer databases and websites
  • Provide instruction to others in work procedures and direct the work of others on a project or day-to-day basis
Other Requirements:
  • Possession of and ability to maintain a valid California driver's license and safe driving record during the course of employment
  • Must be willing to work days, evenings and weekends at various service locations
  • Experience working with diverse populations


Additional Information

Salary: *$4,083 to $4,502 per month to start; seven-step schedule to $5,472 per month. Full-time, 12 months per year; Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. with evenings and weekends as required. Classified employees are required to join the California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS) and as such contribute up to 7% of their monthly salary to CalPERS on a pre-tax basis. Position scheduled to begin as soon as possible, pending continued categorical funding and Governing Board ratification. Salary is subject to proration based on beginning date of assignment.

*Cabrillo College reserves the right at its discretion to hire classified and confidential employees at a higher starting step placement, up to step three, in acknowledgment of an individual's previous job-related work experience. The Cabrillo Classified Employees Union (CCEU) is the exclusive bargaining representative for classified employees. Classified employees who elect to join CCEU agree to have a monthly payroll deduction equal to the current membership dues rate, which is generally a percentage of gross monthly compensation.
