Starting Salary Range: $55,703 to $85,443 per year, salary placement determined by documented education and experience; maximum initial salary step placement on the faculty salary schedule is step 9.
Cabrillo College provides a generous doctoral stipend of $3,719 per year for eligible faculty.
Benefits: Cabrillo College currently provides a generous benefit stipend for employees plus dependents that employees apply towards benefit selections for medical, dental, life, and short-term/long-term disability insurance. Depending on health plan selections, in many cases full-time employee net out-of-pocket for benefit premiums may be $0 or otherwise relatively low.
Days Per Year: Faculty enjoy a 175-day work schedule.
Beginning Date: Position(s) scheduled to begin Monday, August 19, 2019, pending continued funding and Governing Board ratification. Assignments may include distance education courses, may be scheduled over summer and/or winter months, and may be scheduled at various campus locations; days, evenings, and/or weekends.

About the Department:
The Nursing program prepares Cabrillo graduates with an Associate Degree in Nursing for entry-to-practice and preparation for the NCLEX-RN exam. The pairing of knowledge and skill, caring and advocacy at the point of care is central to entry-level practice.
About the Position:
The Nursing Department is looking for a faculty member to join us in our pursuit of student success and professional excellence for Fall 2019.
This Nursing Instructor and Skills Lab Coordinator duties include, but may not be limited to:
- Coordinate all laboratory functions including classroom lectures, skills laboratory activities and student practice activities.
- Prepare and improve classroom, skills laboratory, and instruction.
- Assume responsibility and provide supervision of students in a laboratory setting.
- Participate and/or develop critical thinking scenarios for the classroom and the nursing skills laboratory.
- Promote problem-solving and critical thinking skills in the learning and practice of nursing skills.
- Participate and/or develop scenarios for low and high fidelity simulations in the nursing skills laboratory.
- Monitor equipment and supplies for maintenance, repair, replacement, and disposal.
- Order equipment and supplies for skills laboratory within allowed budget.
- Ensure maintenance of an orderly, clean and organized skills laboratory.
- Develop skills stations.
- Coordinate and evaluate skills testing.
- Participate in faculty team meetings and in nursing program committees.
- Participate with faculty in the development of course objectives, course daily plan, evaluation of total curriculum, and revision of program policies.
- Communicate with the director, program chair, semester coordinator, and team members regarding student concerns, issues, and student progress as needed.
- Maintain and file student records, grade reports and rosters, for N109.
- Remain current in the assigned subject matter and techniques of effective instruction through recent clinical experience and/or professional development.
- Completion of required annual trainings such as Title IX, Mandated Reporter, EEO/Diversity/Elimination of Bias, Workplace Safety, etc.
Minimum Qualifications
Required Education from a U.S. Department of Education recognized accredited organization and licensure qualifications:
- Master's in nursing OR
- Bachelor's in nursing AND a Master's in either health education or health science OR
- The equivalent OR
- A lifetime California Community College Instructor Credential in nursing
Candidates without the specified degrees listed above must complete and submit an Application for Equivalency Determination. Additionally, candidates must provide documentation, as part of this application process, sufficient to convince the committee that the candidate possesses the equivalent of these minimum qualifications, including the depth and breadth of discipline knowledge plus general education.
*Note: Graduate students currently working on a Master's degree are encouraged to apply, with the understanding that the degree must be completed and confirmed by July 1, 2019.
Required Professional Expertise:
- Currency and depth of knowledge in the applicable field
- Knowledge of and commitment to teaching strategies and practices that enhance student success, including effective use of technology
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to teach the courses or perform the duties effectively as described above
- Demonstrated ability to communicate well with students of diverse academic, ethnic, socioeconomic, and cultural backgrounds; gender identities; sexual orientations; and students with disabilities
- Evidence of professional activities and service beyond the primary teaching assignment
- Development and review of curriculum, including assessments of learning
- Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with others
- Demonstrated responsiveness to and understanding of the racial, socioeconomic, academic, and cultural diversity within the community college student population, including students with different ability statuses (e.g., physical and/or learning) as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practices in the classroom
- Demonstrated ability to reflect critically on institutional and teaching practices that aim to increase cultural responsiveness
- Knowledge and understanding of the accountability and critical dimensions of equity
- Demonstrated ability addressing issues of equity in the classroom
- At least one (1) year, or the equivalent, of full time patient care experience in the medical/surgical setting within the last five (5) years.
- Current CPR Certificate
- Current California Nursing License
- Current California Driver's License
- Perform assignments at various campus locations; days, evenings, and/or weekends as needed
- Driving to various clinical locations as necessary
- Recent successful teaching experience in nursing in a higher-education institution.
- Demonstrated ability to employ innovative teaching techniques and methodologies.
- Knowledge of culturally-responsive pedagogical teaching techniques and effective ways for engaging students who are historically under-represented and under-served.
- Successful online teaching experience.
