Full-time, tenure track faculty position.

Starting Salary Range: $55,703 to $85,443 per year, salary placement determined by documented education and experience; maximum initial salary step placement on the faculty salary schedule is step 9.

Cabrillo College provides a generous doctoral stipend of $3,719 per year for eligible faculty.

Benefits: Cabrillo College currently provides a generous benefit stipend for employees plus dependents that employees apply towards benefit selections for medical, dental, life, and short-term/long-term disability insurance. Depending on health plan selections, in many cases full-time employee net out-of-pocket for benefit premiums may be $0 or otherwise relatively low.

Days Per Year: Faculty enjoy a 175-day work schedule.

Beginning Date: Position(s) scheduled to begin Monday, August 19, 2019, pending continued funding and Governing Board ratification. Assignments may include distance education courses, may be scheduled over summer and/or winter months, and may be scheduled at various campus locations; days, evenings, and/or weekends.

About the Department:

The Nursing program prepares Cabrillo graduates with an Associate Degree in Nursing for entry-to-practice and preparation for the NCLEX-RN exam. The paring of knowledge and skill, caring and advocacy at the point of care is central to entry-level practice.

About the Position:

The Nursing Department is looking for a faculty member to join us in our pursuit of student success and professional excellence for Fall 2019. This tenure track faculty position provides instruction and support for nursing students in the areas of medical, surgical, gerontology, and mother/baby nursing.

Examples of Duties

• Understand the level syllabus, student handbook, department policies and procedures, and clinical agency policies and procedures.
• Develop course outlines, objectives, and evaluation materials with the team educators and the faculty at large.
• Participate in curriculum development, evaluation, revision, policy development and text book review and selection.
• Plan, select, and evaluate learning experiences in classroom and assigned clinical agency based on individual student needs and program objectives.
• Promote problem solving, critical thinking and decision making in the teaching /learning process.
• Participate in program committees, faculty meetings, and student/faculty meetings.
• Foster positive and productive relationships with allied health agencies and the general public.
• Communicate with appropriate agency personnel in planning, selecting, and evaluating student learning experiences.
• Communicate on a regular and periodic basis with clinical agency staff.
• Provide students with written guidelines for specific clinical settings.
• Provide direct supervision of students in a clinical setting.
• Counsel students regarding academic concerns and/or personal issues as they relate to their learning needs.
• Refer students to appropriate campus and off-campus resources for remediation, counseling, learning needs, and other personal issues.
• Completion of required annual trainings such as Title IX, Mandated Reporter, EEO/Diversity/Elimination of Bias, Workplace Safety, etc.

Minimum Qualifications

Required Education from a U.S. Department of Education recognized accredited organization and licensure qualifications:

• Master's in nursing OR
• Bachelor's in nursing AND a Master's in either health education or health science OR
• The equivalent OR
• A lifetime California Community College Instructor Credential in nursing

Equivalency

Candidates without the specified degrees listed above must complete and submit an Application for Equivalency Determination. Additionally, candidates must provide documentation, as part of this application process, sufficient to convince the committee that the candidate possesses the equivalent of these minimum qualifications, including the depth and breadth of discipline knowledge plus general education.

*Note: Graduate students currently working on a Master's degree are encouraged to apply, with the understanding that the degree must be completed and confirmed by July 1, 2019.

• Demonstrated responsiveness to and understanding of the racial, socioeconomic, academic, and cultural diversity within the community college student population, including students with different ability statuses (e.g., physical and/or learning) as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practices in the classroom
• Demonstrated ability to reflect critically on institutional and teaching practices that aim to increase cultural responsiveness
• Knowledge and understanding of the accountability and critical dimensions of equity
• Demonstrated ability addressing issues of equity in the classroom

Required Discipline Specific Requirements/Licensure:

• At least one (1) year or equivalent of full time patient care experience in the medical/surgical and/or mother/baby setting within the last five (5) years.
• Current CPR Certificate
• Current California Nursing License

Desired Qualifications/Performance Expectations:

• Recent successful teaching experience in nursing in a higher-education institution.
• Demonstrated ability to employ innovative teaching techniques and methodologies.
• Knowledge of culturally-responsive pedagogical teaching techniques and effective ways for engaging students who are historically under-represented and under-served.
• Successful online teaching experience.
