The Position:
Applications are currently being accepted for DIESEL ENGINE INSPECTOR INSTRUCTOR at San Diego, CA and Norfolk, VA, and Great Lakes, IL.
Diesel Engine Inspector shall provide training on Naval Bases to all DoD personnel including Officer and Enlisted Personnel of the U.S. and Allied Forces temporarily assigned for training. Training services shall include instruction and remediation.
Military Instructor positions offer opportunities across the nation to provide an assortment of military training to the Department of Defense. Our Military Education Program offers a wide range of opportunities in Military Technical Training, Military Combat Training, Vocational Training and Certification, Leadership and Management Development and Professional Skills Development. These positions are as-needed and applicants should live within the commuting distance from the designated place of duty.
NOTE: The San Diego Community College District, Military Education Department accepts applications for Military Instructor positions in support of government contracts on a continuous basis. However, it does not necessarily imply there are immediate openings. If you meet the required minimum qualifications, your application will be included in the Military Instructor pool for possible assignments. Hiring departments utilize the pool when there is a need and will contact you directly should you possess the qualifications they are seeking. Applications are purged approximately one year from submittal, at which time you will receive an automated e-mail notice to re-apply if you wish to remain in the pool.


Major Responsibilities:
Explain the fit, form, and function of each piece and part of the diesel engine as well as what to look for during the course of an inspection including all systems and sub-systems related to the diesel engine
Explain the principles of Diesel Theory which includes the combustion process
Explain the Root Cause Analysis process and troubleshooting of diesel engine problems and use case studies of past diesel engine problems to test the classs ability to diagnose issues
Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of all Navy instructions and publications pertaining to the DEI program
Explain the principles and requirements of fluid programs such as lube oil, fuel oil and jacket water; Navy Preventative Maintenance System (PMS); and the Diesel Readiness System (DRS)
Ability to grade essay type questions
Assess diesel trainers and curriculum for compliance with all standards


Qualifications:
1. A minimum of three (3) years of experience in diesel engine propulsion
2. Former (United States Navy) USN Sailor as an Engineering Officer of the Watch, USN Certified DEI OR a U.S. Coast Guard licensed First Assistant Engineer (Chief Engineer license preferred), with significant diesel propulsion experience, possessing, or with ability to pass the DEI Certification Course
3. Familiar with applicable Navy rules, regulations, course curriculum, Technical Training Equipment, Technical Training Devices, including Electronic Podiums, AECs, PTCs, Video Teaching and Teleconference (VTT) Instructor podium and equipment as applicable

At the time that an offer of assignment is made, proper salary placement is contingent upon receipt of OFFICIAL (sealed) transcripts and Verifications of Previous Work Experience (if applicable). Instructors with advanced coursework and/ or experience shall be placed on the appropriate class and step on the Adjunct College Salary Schedules, effective the first month following receipt (in Human Resources) of the official transcripts and Verifications of Previous Work Experience (if applicable). Initial salary placement will be at the first class/step until all required documentation has been submitted.
