Detailed Description:
Reporting to the Sr. Director of Network and Infrastructure Services, the Manager of Systems Support provides vision, direction, and active management for the design, deployment, administration, maintenance, and support of USD's central information technology infrastructure. This includes physical and cloud compute and storage systems/services running operating systems, such as Unix, AIX, RedHat Linux, VMware, and Microsoft; storage arrays (multiple protocols); High Performance Computing, and specialized IBM systems. The Manager will architect and plan the migration to a cloud (e.g., AWS, Google, Azure) of the current infrastructure characterized by over 400+ virtual servers. He/she will manage right-sizing of cloud environments and assist Sr. Director in managing cloud costs. Support the central IT infrastructure and related equipment to support campus wide services including: staff, faculty and student Gmail, human resource, financial, and payroll systems; student systems; and many others. The incumbent oversees staff that are responsible for the administration and operation of these services. Through careful planning, performance management, and ongoing assessment, the Manager ensures staff have the direction and resources needed to deliver the highest levels of customer service. In addition, he/she develops project plans, sets project milestones and completion dates engages in short- and long-term planning up to and including acting as project lead. He/she may also perform systems administration tasks, including backup of personnel, as needed.
The Manager works closely with all ITS members and vendors throughout the systems life cycle, assisting in areas of systems design, performance benchmarking, network architecture, and security to ensure that deployed services meet user expectations while conforming to generally accepted measures of service and stability.
