Applications are currently being accepted for Instructional Lab Technician / Biology in the Math & Natural Sciences department, located at Mesa College. This is a twelve (12) month, full time position. Selected candidate must be willing to adjust work days/hours based on the department's needs, which will include some evening hours.

Minimum qualifications include: An associate degree in biological sciences or a closely related field or equivalent coursework. Minimum of two years of successful work experience in biological or life sciences. Major factors to be evaluated for this classification will include knowledge, skills, and abilities to: Significant upper division coursework or a bachelors degree in biology or a closely related field; OR additional two years of relevant work experience. Demonstrate competence in laboratory techniques and equipment commonly required in biological sciences. Demonstrate competence in the application of safety regulations involving the preparation and handling of chemicals, preserved animal specimens, human cadavers and live animals. Demonstrate knowledge and competence in proper hazardous waste handling, storage and disposal for both chemical and biological materials. Demonstrate competence in basic laboratory safety and first aid. Ensure the care, maintenance, and security of equipment and supplies. Utilize computer technology as appropriate to science laboratories. Plan and organize work to meet schedules and deadlines. Maintain records, prepare reports and order supplies as needed. Work independently with little direction. Train, direct and support other lab technicians and/or student workers. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Establish and maintain positive, effective working relationships with faculty, other laboratory technicians, administrators and students.

Pay Information:
Range 24 ($3,780.00 $6,033.74) per month based on the current AFT Classified Unit Office Technical Salary Schedule

Initial salary placement is commensurate with related experience and promotional rules. The District offers a comprehensive fringe benefit package including employer paid: medical, dental, and vision plans; sick and vacation leave; and opportunities for professional development. Initial Salary Placement, Promoted or transferred employees will be placed as specified in the AFT-Guild, Local 1931 Classified Staff Collective Bargaining Agreement. This position is FLSA Non-Exempt and may accrue overtime. A temporary probationary period will be applied to the employee entering this assignment.
