Human Services Associate Instructor (full-time/1330 hrs/yr) WITC Rice Lake Campus

Position Overview
WITC Instructors teach in a discipline area in which they have specific training and competence. Instructors are expected to foster learner success, assess learner achievement, and continually improve learning opportunities. Instructors teach in a variety of learning environments including face-to-face, online, web-conferencing, and hybrid classrooms. Instructors are expected to continually improve the overall quality and delivery of learning, including the support of program and collegewide initiatives. The Human Services Associate program trains individuals to provide information, support, care, and advocacy in a human service agency and includes Wisconsin Substance Abuse Counselor Education and Community-Based Residential Facility Caregiver specialized training. The Human Services Associate Instructor will prepare students to assist professionals in areas such as human services, substance abuse counseling, social work, rehabilitation, and related fields. Primary responsibilities include curriculum development and instruction, fieldwork coordination and oversight, academic/club advising, program promotion/recruitment, and active participation in related divisional, Collegewide and regional initiatives.

  • Deliver, assess, and adapt effective instruction that meets the diverse needs of students.
  • Apply a variety of instructional strategies, create learning plans, facilitate learning, and revise teaching practice.
  • Promote a culture of continuing student success, implement strategies to promote learner persistence and meet the needs of multi-generational learners, demonstrate learner-centered communication, and utilize available student support services.
  • Create performance-based assessment plans, employ a variety of formative and summative assessment strategies, communicate assessment results in a timely fashion to promote student learning, and use assessment results to improve instruction.
  • Demonstrate professional behaviors to support teaching and learning and utilize varied strategies for managing the learning environment.
  • Identify exit learning outcomes and external standards, develop competencies that describe intended learning outcomes, create performance-based plans and assessment tasks for each course, develop learning objectives and plans, prepare syllabi, and utilize a quality review process to validate curriculum.
  • Utilize a variety of data analysis tools, analyze data from teaching and learning experiences, and use data to inform decision making about the teaching and learning process.
  • Assess effectiveness in embracing diversity, examine the impact of college, community, and student demographics on teaching and learning, and create an inclusive, effective learning environment that addresses barriers and provides reasonable accommodations.
  • May be assigned to mentor high school teachers who offer WITC-articulated courses.
  • Model the Employability Essentials expected of WITC students, which are to communicate clearly, think critically, and demonstrate professionalism.
  • Designated as a Campus Security Authority (CSA) to receive and report criminal incidents to the WITC Safety Office by virtue of this role's responsibilities at the College (only applies to instructor positions with club advising duties).
  • Instructional assignments typically contain classroom contact hours, advising responsibilities, professional development days, and other activities as assigned. All assignments can be completed within the parameters of the Collegewide calendar and typical faculty work-week. The faculty work week consists of 35 hours/week totaling 1330 hours per year including summer, fall, and spring terms. Please see the Employee Handbook for more information.
  • All instructors teaching for credit courses are expected to complete the Faculty Professional Development Plan (FQAS). All instructors are expected to complete the seven required FQAS courses. Full-time instructors must complete the courses in three years; part-time faculty have five years to complete the required courses.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements
Exerting up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Sitting most of the time. Walking and standing required only occasionally.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Social Work or Human Services or a related field
  • Minimum of two years (4,000 hours) occupational experience in the human services field of which at least one year (2,000 hours) shall be within 5 years prior to the date of appointment
  • Ability to obtain driver's license and insurance coverage in accordance with College policy
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Social Work or Human Services
  • Professional experience working with chemically dependent populations highly desirable
  • Teaching experience (post-secondary desired)
  • Curriculum development experience
  • Experience using alternative instructional modes (e.g.., online, web-conferencing, and hybrid)

Bachelors $60,375 / year

Masters $62,362 / year
