The Position
The San Diego Community College District is accepting applications for a Heating/ Air Conditioning Contract Instructor Noncredit, Continuing Education Instructor, 100%, 10-month assignment. Applicants should understand that they may be assigned to any Continuing Education campus. Assignment may include day, evening, weekend hours, and/or off-campus responsibilities. (This may be a split assignment between several campuses.)

Applications accepted for this position may be considered for identical vacancies that occur throughout Continuing Education during the current academic year. Continuing Education campuses offer adults the opportunity to renew their learning experiences through noncredit vocational, basic skills, life skills and enrichment classes throughout the city of San Diego.

Major Responsibilities
Under the direction of a Dean, the incumbent in this position shall teach Heating/ Air Conditioning courses as assigned in accordance with the catalog descriptions and course outlines. They must also assist in curriculum development and planning, preparing lesson plans and teaching materials, and participate in professional development activities.
The candidate must be able to instruct students in multiple phases of Heating/Air Conditioning.

The candidate must also be able to direct and assist students in labs with the diagnosis and repair of HVAC equipment and systems in live situations.

The instructor will also be responsible for:
  • Maintaining the classroom, department equipment and shop area, and for maintaining student records and other reports as required by District policy or state laws.
  • Providing re-service orientation for students to assure familiarity with rules and regulations governing Continuing Education training programs.
  • Serve as a member of college-wide standing committees, automotive advisory committee screening committees and other related activities as assigned.

    Qualifications
    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    Degrees must be from regionally accredited institutions.

    1. A Bachelor's degree AND two (2) years of occupational experience related to the subject of the course taught; OR, 2. An Associate degree AND six (6) years of occupational experience related to the subject of the course taught; OR, 3. The equivalent.

  • Experience in facilitating technical training.
  • Proven track record of success in service and customer service.
  • Knowledge of Windows, Power Point, Word and Excel or similar programs required.

    Foreign Degree:Applicants with foreign degrees from colleges or universities outside of the United States must have their coursework evaluated by a professional association that is a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES).     Conditions of Employment:

    SELECTED CANDIDATE IS REQUIRED TO COMPLETE THE FOLLOWING PRIOR TO EMPLOYMENT:

  • Pass a pre-employment physical exam at the District's expense;
  • Provide a Tuberculosis Clearance Certificate for initial appointment (Note: The certificate must be renewed every 4 years as a condition of continuing employment);
  • Have fingerprints taken by a Live Scan computer at the candidate's expense (Clearance must be received prior to first day of employment);
  • Present original documents for proof of eligibility to work in the United States as required by the I9
  • Employment Eligibility Verification form; AND
    Attend a new hire processing appointment in Human Resources located at the District Administrative Offices.

    EMPLOYMENT AFTER RETIREMENT
    If you accept a contract (permanent) position with SDCCD and are a retired annuitant with CalPERS or CalSTRS, you must reinstate from your retirement system. Please reference the CalPERS or CalSTRS website for further information.
