Job Description:
FUNCTION & SCOPE:
The function of this individual assuming this position is primarily responsible for the team of Business Intelligence technical staff responsible for creating and maintaining the RF Report Center, is the analytical tool used by the Research Foundation (RF) for SUNY, to allow campuses to view integrated information from the RF business systems. This individual is responsible for overall management and resource allocation of the unit and full technical knowledge of all phases of systems analysis and programming plus the duties of instructing, supervising, and checking the work of other personnel. More simply put this individual oversees analyzing and implementing business intelligence for the RF.

Incumbent will act independently to assist in formulating system scope and objectives with focus on overall Business Intelligence architecture and integration between applications. Devise or modify procedures to solve the most complex problems using data processing, keeping in mind the capacity and limitations of the equipment, operating time and form of desired results. Prepare detailed specifications from which programs will be written. Design, code, test, debug, and document these programs.

Additionally, this individual must demonstrate superior technical and analysis skills including but not limited to the following areas: understanding and applying knowledge about technology, understanding and leveraging expert knowledge about relevant business processing, leveraging both technical and business knowledge in designing and developing superior technical approaches and solutions which satisfy business needs.

DUTIES:
  • Interact directly with the BI Business Analyst Team to understand the reporting needs and challenges and then work on creating solutions. Work closely with business analysts, developers and database administrators to plan, design, develop and implement applications, scripts, procedures and metadata for relational databases.
  • Analyze, design and develop Business Intelligence technical solutions leveraging off the shelf technologies such as OBIEE, Informatica and similar tools. Also, utilize the ability to think out of the box and come up with creative solutions when needed.
  • Modify BI semantic layer using OBIEE Admin tool to build new data models and to extend the capabilities of existing models.
  • Participate in the full development lifecycle within the reporting framework from developing business intelligence requirements to QA and production deployment.
  • Communicate functional and technical designs and changes to team members and business operational and functional analysts.
  • Mentor current development staff in the use of Business Intelligence and Oracle coding language based on numerous prior development activities in these environments.
  • Test and review personal development work as well as work of team members.
  • Provide additional knowledge of applications architecture and development of Business Intelligence applications based on learning from prior experiences.
  • Learn other technologies as needed utilizing prior knowledge of related tools in support of the organization projects.
  • Complies with all supporting change control and problem management policies and procedures.
  • Ability to be on-call, as needed.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

    SPECIAL SKILLS:
  • Education/Expertise/Specialty - Working knowledge of Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition (OBIEE), ETL processing and Oracle database programming languages.
  • Must be able to work with problems involving multiple variables.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to organize and plan tasks; the ability to communicate effectively both written and verbally; the ability to evaluate and implement software into the work environment.
  • Familiarity or experience with Oracle E-Business Suite preferred.
  • Background in Data Modelling preferred.
  • Experience with Informatica preferred.
  • Experience with Appworx preferred.

    Requirements:
    EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Information Systems or another related field.
  • Experience with Business Intelligence for at least 5 and an additional 2-3 years of managing technical development staff.
  • Certification, training, or proven knowledge in Business Intelligence, and Oracle database tools.
