Dean, Harriet L. Wilkes Honors College

Florida Atlantic University (FAU) invites applications for the position of Dean of the Harriet L. Wilkes Honors College (WHC), located on the John D. MacArthur Campus of FAU in Jupiter, Florida.

The Wilkes Honors College, the nation's only university-affiliated, free-standing honors college, provides an interdisciplinary undergraduate liberal arts and sciences education. The college has 41 dedicated full-time faculty members. It currently serves nearly 500 students; approximately half live on campus. The college's all-honors curriculum includes 31 major concentrations of study. Every student completes an internship and/or a study-abroad experience, participates in three innovative team-taught interdisciplinary courses, and conducts an original honors thesis or capstone project. The college has a diverse student body. More than 90 percent of admitted students receive merit scholarships, and many are first in their family to attend college. The college boasts strong student retention and high graduate and professional school placement rates. It recently received a top rating in a comprehensive review of 50 public honors colleges in Inside Honors.

The MacArthur Campus is fast becoming an international research hub and important center for Florida's economic growth. It offers exceptional research opportunities for faculty and students. The dean will actively collaborate with two campus-based global research institutes—Max Planck Florida Institute for Neuroscience and Scripps Research Institute Florida—and FAU's own programs, including the Brain Institute, the Institute for Human Health and Disease Intervention, the Program in Neurogenetics, and the new FAU-Max Planck Academy. For more information on the college, visit http://www.fau.edu/honors/.

The ideal dean candidate will build on these successes through strategic recruitment of students and faculty and a vision for program development. The successful candidate will possess a terminal degree, a scholarship and teaching record that supports an appointment at the rank of professor, administrative experience in higher-education, and a dedication to excellence in undergraduate education. They will embrace the mission of a public interdisciplinary honors college, commit to collegial decision-making and support fundraising. The candidate must demonstrate a commitment to promoting and retaining diversity and inclusion among students, faculty, and staff. The dean reports to the FAU provost located on FAU's Boca Raton Campus.

Application review begins January 17, 2020, and continues until the position is filled. Applicants should submit a letter that addresses the responsibilities and requirements described in the leadership profile, available at http://www.wittkieffer.com, and a current curriculum vitae. These materials should be sent electronically via email to FAU's consultants, Lucy Leske and Veena Abraham, at FAUHonorsDean@wittkieffer.com.
