Position Description:
POSITION SUMMARY

This faculty position is a full-time, 100% FTE (10 Months) grant-funded, non-tenured position as Distance Education Faculty Coordinator in the Division of LLRC, Dual Enrollment, Adult Education, and Distance Education at Evergreen Valley College.

The primary assignment will be overall coordination of the Distance Education (DE) program, which requires knowledge of online instruction and education technology, student support services and program planning and management.

Assignment may include day and evening responsibilities.

This position is represented by the San Jose/Evergreen Federation of Teachers, AFT 6157.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the direction of the Division Dean of LLRC, Dual Enrollment, Adult Education, and Distance Education at Evergreen Valley Collegewill work collaboratively with faculty colleagues and staff:

1. Plan, implement, assess and report on the progress and benefit of the DE program, using student success and retention data, faculty self-assessment and other data. Use data for planning and implementation of online teaching improvements, in partnership with the Distance Education committee.

2. Design and deliver professional development Distance Education Annual plan, including scheduled trainings at Professional Development Days (Flex days) and throughout the academic semesters.

3. Serve as campus CVC-OEI POCR Lead. Collaborate with Distance Education Technologist to establish and maintain a Local POCR review team and work with faculty to fully align courses in accordance with the CVC-OEI Course Design Rubric.

4. Develop and disseminate standards for online course design. Prepare and update Canvas shells, suggested online course syllabi, etc.

5. Coordinate programs to improve student success and support in online classes and instructional tutoring services. Work with the VPAA to develop and maintain annual Distance Education Program budget and Annual Program Review.

6. Serve as official point of contact with Learning Management System (LMS) and San Jose Evergreen Community College District.

7. Serve as Chair on the Distance Education Committee.

8. Collaborate with Distance Education Committee and Academic Senate to ensure goals are being met and the Distance Education Handbook is annually updated.

9. Serve on the Accessibility Committee.

10. Serve as EVC liaison to CVC-OEI. Actively participate in the California Virtual Campus - Online Education Initiative (CVC-OEI) Consortium activities and respond to communications in a timely manner and in accordance with the Consortium Charter.

11. Coordinate CANVAS and applications and updates with the SJECCD District Technology (DTTS) team.

12. Work with the Academic Affairs Office to maintain a list of Eligible Distance Education instructors.

13. Participate in the preparation of reports to the Chancellor's Office and Accreditation Commission.

14. Represent Evergreen Valley College at meetings of DE Coordinators through the CCC Chancellor's Office and other venues and conferences.

15. Keep current in federal regulations and state changes in Title 5 and Education code related to DE.

16. Coordinate with the ZTC/OEI Taskforce, OER Liaison and Librarians to provide resources, training and opportunities for faculty to achieve ZTC courses.

17. Maintain current knowledge and understanding of curriculum, support services, policies, laws and regulations as mandated by State and Federal Laws, including appropriate sections of the California Education code and ACCJC for DE.

18. Provide on-going updates to Academic Senate and College Advisory Council.

19. Support Academic Deans in the review of online courses during the faculty evaluation process

20. Demonstrate commitment to professional development, including but not limited to activities such as: participation in professional conferences, workshops, seminars, membership in professional organizations, research projects, publishing academic work, participation in statewide committees or organizations, etc.

21. Serve as a resource to faculty for the DE Addendum and participate on the All-College Curriculum Committee. Lead changes to DE Addendum through the DE Committee and Academic Senate, based on legislative and/or policy changes.

22. Demonstrate sensitivity in working with students and staff of diverse racial, ethnic, academic and socio economic backgrounds, sexual orientation, and disabilities by showing respect for differences and the dignity of others.

22. Attend and participate in department, division and college meetings and keep posted office hours.

23. Foster a professional work and learning environment.

24. Perform other duties as required by the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Required Qualifications:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

1. Masters degree.

2. The Distance Education Coordinator must be an instructor, with at least three years of online teaching experience using the Learning Management System (LMS). It is desired that the Distance Education (DE) Coordinator be currently teaching online in CANVAS.

3. Three years experience in teaching DE.

1. One year of program coordination experience.

2. Knowledge and understanding of innovative online teaching methods and practices.

3. Knowledge and understanding of Universal Design including ADA 508 standards.

4. Facilitating and leading training on distance education methodologies and best practices.

5. Experience working with faculty across disciplines to facilitate improvements in Distance Education.

6. Experience examining and remediating ones instruction, interactions, and/or practices to more effectively engage and support diverse students.

7. Demonstrated skill with addressing issues of equity.

8. Demonstrated expertise in culturally responsive methodologies, particularly as it relates to students lives, interests, and communities.

9. Demonstrated experience in effectively teaching college-level learners from diverse backgrounds.

10. Experience in assessing instructional practices to inform ongoing improvement.

11. Experience in successful course curriculum development, and commitment to working with colleagues from other disciplines using interdisciplinary strategies to develop courses and programs to enhance student learning.

12. Willingness to share in departmental duties including, but not limited to, department and division meetings, program review, data gathering/reporting, assessment of student learning outcomes, participation on hiring committees, adjunct faculty mentorship/training, and strategic planning.

13. Demonstrated experience with SLO assessment and program review and familiarity with the California Community College Guided Pathways Initiative.

14. Willingness to serve the broader campus community (e.g. committee involvement, faculty leadership, student clubs).

15. Bilingual abilities, desirable.

    Salary Range:
    $84,220 to $115,609 Entry Level Annual Salary (10 Month Academic Salary Schedule 2022-2023); Maximum Salary Potential $150,001. Note: Actual Salary placement is based on candidate's verified education and experience.
