General Information:
Wisconsin Indianhead Technical College is seeking qualified candidate for the position of part-time (1040 hours/year) Custodian at the WITC Superior Campus.
Position Overview
Under the supervision of the Facility Maintenance Supervisor, the Custodian performs a variety of tasks required to maintain the cleanliness, good order, and secure conditions of the campus.

- Rearrange classrooms, offices, labs, conference centers, and meeting rooms.
- Set up and take down rooms following written and verbal instructions.
- Properly remove/transport equipment and furniture, etc., to storage facilities.
- Oversee the assistance of call staff and/or work study students as assigned by supervisor.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and customers.
- Demonstrate a positive attitude.
- Demonstrate good human relations skills in dealing with internal and external customers.
- Work cooperatively with peers.
- Project appropriate image in accordance with dress guidelines.
- Perform general housekeeping duties of facilities:
- Dust furniture
- Vacuum carpeting
- Sweep floors
- Clean windows
- Paint walls, doors, etc.
- Make minor repairs to furniture, cleaning equipment and changes to facilities, including minor carpentry.
- Assist when assigned by the supervisor in the maintenance, repair, and adjustment of equipment.
- Assist in the establishment of a preventative maintenance program and service items as necessary.
- Assist in the renovation and repair of facilities:
- Move walls
- Painting/refinishing
- Recovering floors
- Installing/removing doors, locks, windows, etc.
- Exercise good judgment in identifying and reporting problems with the following:
- Heating systems
- Water pressure systems
- Temperature regulation
- Exercise independent judgment in performing the following duties:
- Proper application of chemicals for:
- Sanitation of restrooms, labs, kitchens
- Cleaning, stripping, and refinishing floors
- Shop cleaning
- Waste receptacles
- General cleaning, i.e., walls, chairs, etc.
- Pest control
- Proper application of chemicals for:
- Proper utilization of cleaning equipment
- Vacuum cleaner
- Carpet extractor
- Power scrubber/buffer
- Properly dispose of waste/recyclables in accordance with procedures
- Collection of recyclables
- Paper
- Metals
- Petroleum products
- Disposal of waste in proper containers
- Collection of recyclables
- Recognize and properly apply safety procedures relating to job duties
- Rectify safety hazards
- Utilize proper safety procedures
- Report safety hazards on equipment or facilities to supervisor
- Comply with college guidelines, policies, procedures and training requirements in performance of job duties (i.e., forklift training, Bloodborne Pathogens, Hazardous Materials)
- Utilize appropriate technology for communication purposes (email, voicemail, e-time, office communicator, Schooldude).
- Perform facility security duties in accordance with established procedures including weekend and holiday building checks.
- Secure all doors and windows
- Test and set entrance alarms
- Test fire/freeze alarms
- Test and set motion detector equipment
- De-alarm and open facilities and classrooms as per written/verbal instructions
- Complete records
- Perform grounds keeping duties
- Mow lawn
- Properly remove snow
- Properly remove litter from grounds
- Assist in landscaping, i.e., trees, shrubs, flowers, and hedges
- Properly apply chemicals, i.e., fertilizers, pest controls, herbicides
- Perform shipping/receiving duties as necessary
- Unload, distribute or store in proper location
- Complete, sign, route paperwork to proper authority or supervisor
- Maintain inventory of consumables
- As assigned, assist food service workers in busing food and refreshments to conference center or other activities/events.
- Other duties as assigned.
Exerting up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 30 lbs. of force frequently and/or up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to move objects.
Minimum Qualifications
- Two years' work experience in custodial/ maintenance field required.
- Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds; bend, twist, stoop, and climb ladders on a repetitive basis.
- Ability to read and understand labels and directions.
- Knowledge of and familiarity with cleaning methods, chemicals and floor finishes.
- Ability to use hand tools and possess mechanical aptitude to do small repairs.
- Candidates must pass qualifying exam. The testing session is set for January 10th at 9 am at the WITC Superior Campus. Please arrive promptly at 9 am and bring your driver's license for test registration. By submitting your application, you have a reserved seat at the testing session. All applicants must attend testing.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective team relationships and provide excellent customer service.
- Willingness to work weekends and irregular schedules.
- Valid driver's license.
