Job Description:
APPOINTMENT: July 1, 2020

RESPONSIBILITIES: The Dean of the College of Business and Technology is the chief academic officer for the College and is responsible for providing academic, administrative, and professional leadership to faculty and students. In consultation with representative faculty committees, the Dean carries out the educational policies of the College and University and serves as a representative on administrative committees. The Dean will also play a leading role in developing programs within the College of Business and Technology. The Dean reviews internal policies and the mission and goals of the College to ensure that they are in accord with those of the University and the Board of the Trustees. The Dean coordinates the activities of associate deans, department chairs and support staff relating to the development and growth of the College and its departments. The Dean is charged with the overall responsibility for planning, developing, and evaluating academic programs; recruitment, evaluation and retention of faculty; fiscal management of the College budget; fund-raising; leadership of college strategic planning; promoting student recruitment and retention; and, communication to and among faculty and the administration.

RANK & SALARY: The successful candidate will be eligible for the rank of Professor in one of the College's academic units. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience. Requirements:
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: An earned doctorate from an accredited institution in one of the disciplines represented in the College. The required degree must be conferred from a regionally accredited degree-granting institution of higher education (or equivalent from an international accrediting body). Candidates must have a demonstrated record of distinguished teaching, research/scholarship and service consistent with a tenured faculty appointment at the rank of Professor in one of the College's academic units; demonstrated commitment to fostering diversity; open to shared governance and collaboration; a proven record of generating external funding (fund raising, grant writing, and/or contracts); demonstrated experience in academic innovation, curriculum development, program expansion, student recruitment and retention, faculty recruitment/development/evaluation and fiscal management; and, excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience in strategic planning; experience in the assessment, accreditation (AACSB, ABET, ATMAE), development and expansion of baccalaureate and master's degree programs; experience in supporting collaboration with business/industry and alumni; experience in supporting international academic development, successful experience as an academic administrator at the level of department chair, dean or equivalent; experience with and demonstrated understanding of the application of technology to enhance learning in higher education; knowledge of or experience with collective bargaining in higher education; a record of involvement in community relations; and experience with a multi-campus environment.

For a degree to be considered, it must be conferred from a regionally accredited degree-granting institution of higher education (or equivalent from an international accrediting body). Unless otherwise stated, the degree must be"in hand" at the time of application.

The College offers degree programs in two locations and is made up of approximately 125 faculty members in eight departments.

Currently 2,000 undergraduate students are majoring in one of eight AACSB accredited business areas along with, Engineering (ABET), Engineering Technology and Construction Management (ATMAE), Graphic Communications, Agriculture and Computer Science. Six graduate degrees are available including the Master of Accountancy (AACSB), Master of Business Administration (AACSB), Master of Science in Quantitative Economics, Master of Science in Applied Statistics and Decision Analytics, Master of Science in Computer Science and Engineering Technology Leadership with approximately 450 participating graduate students. Students at the Quad Cities campus make up approximately 25% of enrollment.

The undergraduate and graduate programs in accountancy and all business fields are accredited by AACSB International, The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. The criteria and standards are applied in all departments and all majors to ensure a quality educational experience for all students.

THE UNIVERSITY: Since 1902, Western Illinois University has provided outstanding educational opportunities to individuals in west central Illinois and well beyond our region and state. The University's athletics program, based on the Macomb campus, sponsors 19 NCAA Division I intercollegiate men's and women's varsity sports. Football competes in the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision through the Missouri Valley Football Conference; all other varsity sports compete at the Division I level through The Summit League.

WIU-Macomb, IL (Student Population: 6,432): A traditional, residential four-year campus with offering a comprehensive slate of undergraduate and graduate programs, including a doctorate in education, WIU-Macomb is located in the heart of west central Illinois in Macomb (population 20,000). Amtrak provides twice-daily service from Macomb to Chicago (and point in-between). Macomb is located approximately 75 miles from the Quad Cities International Airport (Moline, IL) and 70 miles from the Greater Peoria Regional Airport (Peoria, IL).

WIU-Quad Cities (Student Population: 1,192): The only public university in the Quad Cities area, WIU-QC offers select undergraduate and graduate programs, including a doctorate in education and a doctorate in environmental studies, at its metropolitan, non-residential campus in Moline, IL.
