Job Description:
APPOINTMENT: August 2020. Western Illinois University Department of Broadcasting and Journalism is seeking a full-time Instructor to fill a 9-month News Director position.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Serve as Television and Internet/Social Media News Director. Lead and manage planning, production and presentation of news content on-air and online. Newscasts regularly air live twice a week. Recruit and coach student journalists and production staff. Hold weekly staff meetings with student news staff. Enforce newsroom policies and procedures. Supervise the executive producers, segment producers, and directors of the live television newscasts. Coordinate updates of NEWS3 website and social media on a regular basis.

Requirements:
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Completed MA in Broadcasting and Journalism or related field. Professional experience producing multimedia newscasts or working with student produced multimedia newscasts.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Ability to teach multimedia news writing, reporting and production courses at the university level. Experience with studio production and performance. Proficiency in Adobe Premiere or similar editing software.

For a degree to be considered, it must be conferred from a regionally accredited degree-granting institution of higher education (or equivalent from an international accrediting body). Unless otherwise stated, the degree must be"in hand" at the time of application.

THE DEPARTMENT: The department offers bachelor of arts degrees in Broadcasting and Journalism with options in Advertising/Public Relations, Broadcast Production, Multimedia Journalism, and Sports Broadcasting. In addition, the department offers minors in Broadcasting and Journalism, Advertising/Public Relations, and Sports Broadcasting. The department is an energized program with dedicated students, who receive valuable hands-on experience and mentorship. Faculty and students are active in student organizations (National Broadcasting Society, National Association of Black Journalists, Students in Illinois News Broadcasters Association). Students are recognized yearly with state, regional and national awards (NBS Grand Prize, IBS National award, BEA Award of Excellence, NATAS Mid-America Crystal Pillar) for their productions. Students produce and announce live sporting events for ESPN using a high-definition remote truck. They also apply their skills in a HD control room and studio for our student-produced newscast, NEWS3 (2 times a week) and a morning news/talk show (bi-weekly). Students can also gain experience working on our FM radio station, WIUS. The department has a reputation for academic and professional excellence. WIU-Macomb, IL (Student Population: 6,432): A traditional, residential four-year campus with offering a comprehensive slate of undergraduate and graduate programs, including a doctorate in education, WIU-Macomb is located in the heart of west central Illinois in Macomb (population 20,000). Amtrak provides twice-daily service from Macomb to Chicago (and point in-between). Macomb is located approximately 75 miles from the Quad Cities International Airport (Moline, IL) and 70 miles from the Greater Peoria Regional Airport (Peoria, IL).

WIU-Quad Cities (Student Population: 1,192): The only public university in the Quad Cities area, WIU-QC offers select undergraduate and graduate programs, including a doctorate in education and a doctorate in environmental studies, at its metropolitan, non-residential campus in Moline, IL.
