Associate Dean of Nursing

Job Summary/Basic Function:
The Associate Dean of Nursing reports to the Dean of Health Sciences. This position oversees the Nursing Department at EvCC which includes coordinating the planning, development, review and assessment of the department and its programs . The mission of the Department of Nursing at Everett Community College is to prepare nurses to:
- Provide compassionate, patient-centered care to individuals, families, and population groups across the developmental spectrum.
- Practice collaboratively with members of the healthcare team as providers of care, communicators, advocates

Typical Duties include:
- Budget: develop, monitor and manage nursing program budget
- Hiring/Staffing: Responsible for staffing courses, overseeing recruiting and hiring of nursing faculty
- Assessment/Supervision of Faculty: Observes and evaluates nursing faculty in their teaching in accordance with the schedule and manner dictated by the faculty contract; serves as administrative representative on Appointment Review -
- Committees for nursing faculty; assists associate faculty who meet criteria in becoming senior associates; supervises faculty in instruction, advising and in administrative duties for which they are receiving stipends or reassigned time in accordance with faculty contract
- Oversight of Programs: Monitors, manages and assesses the effectiveness of nursing department programs and promotes data-driven decision making. Attends and represents the views of Nursing faculty on administrative committees and advisory bodies such as Instructional Council and Dean's Council
- Program Approval: Keeps current on standards for evaluation of nursing programs in Washington State through applicable RCWs and WACs and contact with the Nursing Care Quality Assurance Commission (Nursing Commission); completes annual report to the Nursing Commission and files Substantive Changes as required. Oversees compliance of NAC program with SBCTC and Nursing Commission requirements
- Program Accreditation: Keeps current on the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) policies and requirements; ensures compliance of program with ACEN Standards and Criteria, etc.
- Diversity and Cultural Competencies: Advances the College's commitment to diversity and building cultural competencies through monitoring, assessment and management of admissions policies and practice (including re-admission appeals), curriculum design and instruction, assessment and grading, and termination/dismissals; models cultural competencies in all interpersonal contacts
- Manage disputes, complaints and concerns of instructors about individual students or vice versa
- Foster a collegial and collaborative work environment for students, faculty and staff; promotes consensus-building models in groups meetings and other collaborative processes
- Coordinates and leads mentoring activities between full-time and part-time faculty and ensures that associate faculty are oriented to the College, the nursing program and their courses, and that they are developing professionally and growing as instructors
- Build and maintain partnerships with Nursing employers and clinical sites. Ensures affiliation agreements with clinical sites are developed, maintained, and updated and ensures compliance.
- Provides service to college by serving on committees, maintaining confidentiality, exhibiting ethical work conduct and maintaining professional relationships
- Attends and represents the program at CNEWS meetings and at other regional meetings for nursing educators and program administrators
- Ensures that admissions procedures and policies are faculty-driven and are in compliance with the policies and goals of EvCC

Minimum Qualifications:
Masters in Nursing or Masters of Science in Nursing from a nursing education program accredited by the United States Department of Education
An unencumbered Washington State Registered Nursing license or ability to be granted same by date of hire.
Preparation in education that includes teaching adults, adult learning theory, teaching methods, curriculum development, and curriculum evaluation, or two years of teaching experience in nursing education that demonstrates this type of preparation
Curriculum development and administration experience
Five years of experience as a registered nurse including two years of experience in nursing education
Current knowledge of nursing practice at the associate degree program level.
Demonstrated cultural competence.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience participating in or leading an accreditation process.
Administrative or leadership experience in nursing education or health care
Grant writing and/or grant management experience
Experience using simulation in health professions teaching.
