POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Sociology Department at the University of California seeks to hire an outstanding scholar whose research and teaching focuses on the structures of and resistance to the persistence and consequences of anti-Black racism in America and/or globally for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position with an effective date of July 1, 2021. This appointment is part of a cluster hire that began with four endowed North Hall chairs established as a result of Black student protest and will be expanded to include additional positions in the Division of Social Sciences. This cluster is intended to bring to campus faculty with outstanding records of achievement whose research will diversify and strengthen our present scholarship on social justice, knowledge traditions, and anti-racist activism in Black worlds.

All areas of research specialization will be considered, although special consideration will be given to candidates whose research and teaching focus on social movements and diverse forms of anti-racist activism; the impact of race, class, and gender on health inequalities; and environmental racism. This hire would join a vibrant intellectual community in the department and across the campus that has produced foundational work over the past half century on intersectionality, critical race theory, Black feminism, Black queer and trans studies, movements for Black liberation, and the Black radical tradition.

The University is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through research, teaching and service as appropriate to the position.
The position is open until filled.

Preferred qualifications

Active research program as demonstrated through publication in peer reviewed journal articles and/or books. All areas of research specialization will be considered, although we are particularly interested in candidates with outstanding records of achievement whose research and teaching focus on social movements and diverse forms of anti-racist activism; the impact of race, class, and gender on health inequalities; and environmental racism.
