The Position:
Under the direction of the Dean of Student Affairs, the Mental Health Counselor's primary responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: providing mental health counseling, crisis intervention, and acting as a liaison/case manager for disproportionally impacted student populations such as homeless and food insecure students, foster youths, veterans etc. This position maintains an ongoing caseload, providing direct client services including initial assessment, follow up care, referring to community services, case management, short term/triage counseling and crisis intervention. Responsibilities also include maintenance of mental health information in accordance with all state and federal laws. The incumbent in the position must maintain professional licenses and complete required continuing education units (CEUs) per State regulations required for on-going employment and must work collaboratively with the team of clinical staff in the Wellness Center as well as members of the Dean of Student Affairs Office and Student Services Division.

Major Responsibilities:
Provide individual counseling, crisis assessment and intervention to students wide array of cultural backgrounds. Assists and advocates for disproportionately impacted students in navigating personal challenges and wellness by connecting them with off-campus and on-campus resources. Manages the coordination of responses for disproportionately impacted students who are facing mental health and other basic need challenges. Serves on the University Behavioral Intervention Team and provides support for students in crisis as appropriate. Develops and maintains partnerships with agencies to help students access and utilize needed campus and community resources and services. Serves as a resource to the team which coordinates the programs for students faced with basic need challenges. Offers psycho social workshops, provide mental health related classroom presentations and in-service training for faculty and staff.

Qualifications:
Masters in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, or career development, marriage and family therapy, or marriage, family and child counseling. OR the equivalent. (NOTE: A Bachelors degree in one of the above listed degrees and a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) is an alternative qualification for this discipline.)

Desired Qualifications:
Masters or Doctoral degree in Social Work from an accredited institution. Licensed in the State of California as a Licensed Social worker. Two years experience providing therapy and crisis counseling to individuals with various diagnosis and experiencing a variety of challenges. Evidence of knowledge, experience, sensitivity and understanding of the unique challenges of disproportionately impacted students. One year experience working as a case manager. Evidence of knowledge, skills and ability to handle crisis intervention, conflict resolution and management of disruptive behavior in an educational or community based setting in conjunction with administration/supervisor. Knowledge of applicable laws and regulations regarding student records (FERPA, HIPPA, Cleary Act, and other legislation regarding students; the American Disabilities Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973). Demonstrated effective written and oral communication skills. Demonstrated cultural competency, sensitivity to and understanding of a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and staff.

Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the State of California

Pay Information:
Class 1, Step A Class 6, Step C ($5,783.69 $7,793.19) per month based on the current AFT COLLEGE Faculty Tenured-Tenured Track Monthly Salary Schedule.

Initial salary placement for this Assistant Professor is commensurate with required education and related teaching experience as outlined in section A2.1 of the AFT Faculty Collective Bargaining Agreement and it is non-negotiable. The District offers a comprehensive fringe benefit package including employer paid medical, dental, vision plans, sick leave, and opportunities for professional development. This position is FLSA Exempt and may not accrue overtime. Benefits will be provided under the terms of the AFT-Guild, Local 1931 Faculty Collective Bargaining Agreement. Annual Salaries will be recalculated for service less than a full academic year based on Education Code 87815, any required adjustment will be made within the first pay period. Travel reimbursement for interviewees traveling more than 200 miles, one-way, may be paid according to geographic location (see SDCCD Travel Stipend Policy, Rev 7/14/2011). Typically, Assistant Professors earn tenure after 4 years and promote to Associate Professor.
