Basic Function:
Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) is seeking part-time adjunct faculty to teach an afternoon/evening Secondary STEM Teaching Methods course for its Teacher Preparation Program. Part-time faculty positions are created to provide an available applicant pool for the department. Positions will be filled on an as needed basis. Start dates will vary by course and semester.

Qualified applicants will be contracted by the academic department. Your application will remain in the pool until the posting closes. If you wish to be considered for positions beyond that date, then you must reapply.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Teach ID 3100 Secondary STEM Teaching Methods working collaboratively with the Teacher Prep team and report to the Director of Teacher Preparation Program.
  • Develop and implement a syllabus in collaboration with the Teacher Prep team due to the fact that this course must:
    a. address key components required by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE).
    b. integrate/utilize Mursion simulation software.
    c. ensure continuity throughout the program (using program lesson plan template etc.).
  • Integrate pre-practicum field placements seamlessly into course.
  • Use Teacher Preparation specific evaluation questions on end of course evaluation.
  • Teach approximately twice a week for two hours per class for seven weeks (approximate dates: March through beginning of May). Other dates may be added for simulation software.

    Position Requirements

  • At least a BA in a STEM field with a masters in content area and/or education or a related field. PhD preferred.
  • At least 5 years experiences as a secondary school educator with 2-3 years in a supervisory capacity.

    Preferred: administration certificate of some kind; urban teaching experience

  • Working knowledge of the history of education including the Education Reform Act.
  • Considerable knowledge of the MA Science, Technology, and Engineering and Common Core Math standards and research-based best practices in pedagogy, particularly in all STEM fields for grades 5-12.
  • Collaborative and reflective/responsive to feedback.
