Position Summary


Big Bend Community College (BBCC) is seeking qualified applicants for an Accounting/Business Instructor position. This position is part of the Professional Studies Division. We are looking for a person prepared and interested in teaching a variety accounting and business courses. The anticipated start date is September 14, 2020.

Big Bend Community College (BBCC) is a comprehensive public community college serving a large, rural district in central Washington State. BBCC's main campus is located in the city of Moses Lake (pop. 24,009) in Grant County, situated on the former Larson Air Force Base. In addition to the central campus, BBCC has learning centers in seven outlying communities that provide adult basic education, high school completion, and English Language Learning programs as gateways to college. We are accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities and we serve approximately 4,000 students, with an annualized FTE of approximately 2,000.

Essential Job Duties


Primary essential responsibilities include but will not be limited to the following:



  • Prepare and teach a variety of Accounting and Business courses. This may include evening, hybrid, and online classes.

  • Develop and revise departmental curriculum.

  • Engage in assessment activities to meet the requirements of the College, program, and course-level student evaluation.

  • Provide access to students through posted office hours, electronic communication, and other appropriate methods.

  • Provide academic and program advising for students; assist students in planning an educational program and in selecting courses, and when necessary refer students to appropriate student services for assistance.

  • Work with the Accounting program advisory committee; develop industry collaborations and partnerships.

  • Maintain required licensing and WA State vocational teaching certification.

  • Maintain an educational environment that promotes student learning and success.

  • Instruct, assist, and motivate students through careful preparation of course materials, effective teaching methodologies and informed critical feedback on assignments and discussions.

  • Adapt to a variety of teaching situations including diverse student abilities and preparedness.

  • Participate as an active member of working committees dealing with instruction, college-wide and department assessment, student matters, and/or college-related concerns.

  • Work effectively with colleagues and students of various cultural and socio-economic backgrounds and be a positive contributing member of the campus community.

  • Provide advice and support for adjunct faculty in conjunction with the department.

  • Maintain positive and effective communications with students, faculty, administration, and staff.

  • Foster a flexible, healthy learning environment with respect for student diversity.

  • Demonstrate a commitment to professional growth, development, and conduct.

  • Other duties as agreed to with division chair or administrator.




Minimum & Desirable Qualifications


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
At the time of application, all applicants must possess the following:



  • Master's degree in Accounting or a master's degree in Business Administration or Business Education with a concentration in Accounting.

  • Experience working with students/workforce from diverse academic, age, socioeconomic, cultural, ability, and ethnic backgrounds.


DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

  • CPA or CMA Certification.

  • Two or more years of work experience in the accounting profession.

  • Experience teaching at a community college.

  • Experience teaching accounting and business courses.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of the role of the community college in education.

  • Experience implementing innovative teaching methods such as inverted instruction, coordinated studies, team teaching, active learning, or computer-aided instruction.

  • Experience implementing strategies to improve student success and retention.

  • Experience with online learning, hybrid courses, and learning management systems (Canvas, Blackboard, etc).

  • Demonstrated multicultural experience (fluency in other languages, work experience, or literary/cultural/travel experience) which add breadth and depth to teaching.

  • Bilingual English/Spanish proficiency.
