Detailed Description:

The Department of Sociology at the University of San Diego invites applications for a one-year Visiting Assistant Professor to begin Fall 2019. The position is full-time at 40 hours per week, equivalent to 24 units of instruction over the academic year. The department is seeking a sociologist for hire at the assistant-level rank, with expertise in the following areas: emphasis on law/crime/justice and social justice with an emphasis on race/ethnicity, and the ability to teach courses such as Criminology, Crime and Inequality, Juvenile Delinquency and related courses.

Other areas for consideration include: comparative local/transnational, intersectional, and expertise in line with our departmental concentrations. Must have PhD in hand by start date.

The University of San Diego is strongly committed to a eacher-scholar model, and, therefore, only candidates with evidence of superior teaching and an active research agenda will be considered for the position. The undergraduate teaching load is three courses per semester.

Job Requirements:

A PhD is required at the time of appointment.

Posting Salary:

$62,880; Excellent Benefits. Appointment includes a competitive salary, benefits package, and travel funds for conference participation.
