Detailed Description:
The Student Development and Facilities Supervisor is responsible for assisting in creating a diverse and inclusive recreational environment that serves the University of San Diego community. The position is primarily responsible for all administrative, organizational and supervisory aspects of Sports Center student employee development as well as overall Campus Recreation facilities operations and maintenance. The Student Development areas of this position includes Sports Center student (31) hiring, on-boarding, development training, scheduling, payroll, and mentoring and evaluating with assessment. In addition, this position collaborates with the Assistant Director of Fitness Programs to assess and evaluate the Department's Student Development program in relation to the University Strategic Plan, Co-Curricular Learning Outcomes, trends/data, as well as Department goals. Facility operation management includes; oversight and supervision of Sport Center activity venues; shared supervision of two multi use sport fields; oversight of facility usage and general scheduling including facility use by on campus organizations and departments; maintenance/repair responsibilities for the three areas in the department (including immediate and long-term planning); administering regular facility inspections and assessment; oversee general Sports Center facility risk, liability and emergency planning operations; and overseeing and maintaining the TMA equipment inventory program. In addition, this position serves as the liaison to the Student Affairs Facilities Cluster and supports and manages Sport Club facility and equipment needs in collaboration with the Competitive Sports Supervisor. Additional responsibilities include management of all university transportation regulations as they pertain to department vehicles. This position additionally supports recreation summer program management and revenue development. Periodically, this position may be asked to lead or contribute to either ad hoc or ongoing division/campus projects outside the scope of their day-to-day activities.

Duties & Responsibilities:
Facility Operations:

  • Works closely with Campus Recreation Director in overseeing shared facility use schedules and maintenance.
  • Serve as the Campus Recreation representative on the Student Affairs Facilities Cluster.
  • Partner with the Athletic department facilities staff to create and maintain a shared facility maintenance and project plan.
  • Coordinate with the Campus Recreation Business Services Supervisor and Campus Recreation Director to submit maintenance work orders, contracts, requests and purchase needed facility items for all three Recreation areas.
  • Oversee the Department's equipment TMA program Oversee general facility risk, liability and emergency planning operations to ensure risk management standards are being met.
  • Create end of year facility assessment reports.
  • Responsible for all recreation facilities maintenance, repairs and safety.
  • Responsible for recreation facilities scheduling and group use coordination.
  • Responsible for management and implementation of required transportation policies.
  • Establish operating hours for the Sports Center and recreational use fields in coordination with the Campus Recreation Director.
  • Student Development:
  • Create semester master calendar for student development meetings and project management. Create end of year student employee development assessment reports.
  • General Administrative:
  • Support the Department's hiring process (background checks, driver clearance and hiring paperwork).
  • Serve on campus committees as requested.
  • Contribute to or lead additional division/campus projects outside of typical duties to help further accomplish student or organizational goals.
  • Additional assignments may be seasonal, ad hoc or ongoing, depending on the project.

    Staff Supervision and Development (Hiring, training, scheduling, evaluations, payroll):
  • Supervise the full time Recreation Repair and Maintenance Coordinator staff Oversee Sports Center student development program for 30+ employees including hiring, onboarding, payroll, mentoring, training and evaluating all student employees.
  • Oversee and supervise the Student employee leadership model at the Sports Center and in collaboration with the Assistant Directors at the Bosley Fitness Center and Outdoor Adventures.

    Programming
  • Collaborate to create and implement summer youth and/or adult programs to support revenue growth Collaborate with the Assistant Director of Fitness Programs to create and implement the Department's student development program at the Sports Center.

    Activity Involvement
  • Support overall Campus Recreation and Wellness programs as needed.
  • In alignment with our student development model, this position may be asked to support student success programs such as Outdoor Adventure immersive experience trips including Pre-O and various 3-4 day reak trips pending availability and experience. Attend and supervise special events as needed.

    Job Requirements:
    Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required in Recreation Administration, Student Development or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years related experience in recreation or higher education.
  • Experience applying student development theory in a higher education setting.
  • Proven management skills and employee training experience.

    Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree preferred or equivalent work experience required with one year of work experience.
  • equal to two years of higher education.
  • Interest and experience in outdoor recreation and leading immersive outdoor experience trips.

    Performance Expectations - Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
  • Ability to initiate, coordinate, oversee and complete various projects on own initiative.
  • Possess excellent communication skills, human relation skills, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to work with a multitude of students and university personnel.
  • Strong organizational techniques with the ability to manage multiple tasks and programs.
  • Flexible in performance and willingness to make changes as interests change.
  • Knowledge and application of student development theories.
  • Familiarity with Catholic higher education and willingness to promote the Catholic mission and vision of the University strongly preferred.

    Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
  • Adult and Child CPR and First Aid certification required.
  • American Red Cross Lifeguard certification required.

    Special Conditions of Employment:
    This position is expected to work flexible hours and be available during prime usage, student
    development periods, special events and programming.
  • Fall/Spring semesters: The Recreation facilities are open 8am - 11pm Monday - Thursday; 8am - 8pm
  • Friday; and 10am - 6pm Saturday - Sunday.
  • This position must be available to work fall and spring semesters between 3pm-11:15pm Monday -
  • Thursday plus 9:45am-6:15pm one weekend day.
  • This position must be available to adjust the weekday schedule and lead two student development
  • trainings per month on Tuesdays or Thursdays between 12-2:30pm.
  • Intersession and summer: The Recreation facilities are open 10am - 7pm Monday - Sunday. This
  • position must be available to work between 9am-7pm Monday - Thursday plus 9:45am-6:15pm one
  • weekend day.
  • Summer hours may vary depending on special events and programs.
  • Willing to work flexible hours as activities and events dictate, including weekends and holidays.
