Applications are being accepted for the position of Job Placement Coordinator at San Diego City College. One of three Colleges in the San Diego Community College District, City College is an urban campus, minutes away from a world-class zoo and Balboa Park, providing academic and career education offerings to meet the needs of a diverse student population. The assignment may include the need to work some evenings and weekends. This position reports to the Dean of Student Development and Matriculation.

Please note that an employee may be transferred to any District site at the option of the Chancellor.

Major Responsibilities:
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES Develop, implement and manage a variety of job placement and work-based learning activities for students, including assessment for job readiness, career exploration, navigation, coaching and/or counseling, and job preparation skills training. Provide direct support to students, including information and guidance about requirements of specific occupations; job market trends; proper work habits; and techniques for competing for jobs, including appropriate dress, preparing resumes and interviewing strategies. Advise students in their preparation to seek employment. Connect students to employers by facilitating interviews, matching students to internship sites and assisting with job placement. Coordinate with career guidance staff to establish students goals and assess readiness for employment. Prepare and deliver informational presentations to students in various locations and provide work placement information to employers and representatives from the community. Design and implement recruitment of students to participate in job placement activities. Provide support for student participation in job placement activities, including documentation, transportation, and communication between employers and students. Serves as a liaison between the college, employers, and community regarding administrative and operating requirements for the work-based learning and job placement program. Initiate and maintain regular contact with various educational institutions and programs. Establish collaborative working relationships with other campus program areas in developing and delivering innovative and comprehensive programs and services. Develop and implement marketing plans and strategies for job placement and work- based learning opportunities. Utilize technology to promote job placement and work-based learning and maintain work-based learning/job placement website and social media platforms and supports the piloting and implementation of new technology, as needed. Accesses occupational and labor market data library and available labor market information, including information on careers in demand and career clusters, employment prospects and trends, employer requirements and opportunities; coordinates with DSNs to obtain relevant job market trends and requirements for a variety of occupations. Ensure compliance with state regulations and coordinate with appropriate individuals and departments to meet institutional reporting requirements. Participate in college and district governance activities. Perform related duties as assigned.

Any combination of training and experience equivalent to: Masters Degree in Education, Counseling, Public Administration, Business, or related field and three years of administrative experience in an educational organization or social program that services a similar population or program. The following are also required for this academic/educational administrator assignment: 1) One (1) year of formal training, internship, or leadership experience reasonably related to the administrators assignment, AND 2) Demonstrated cultural competency, sensitivity to, and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and staff. OR 1) Two (2) years of recent management experience in an institution of higher education, AND 2) Demonstrated cultural competency, sensitivity to, and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and staff.

Demonstrated experience in: Job placement programs and services; Job placement programs and services that achieve equitable outcomes for underserved populations; High-volume case management; Employer engagement, connecting education to industry; Develop, implement, and monitor budgets; Evidence-based decision making; and Effective collaboration, communication, and consensus-building techniques. Ability to: Communicate effectively both orally and in writing; Produce data-informed reports; Maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff, administrators, and community partners; and Use modern office technology and computer software applications appropriate to the departmental functions.


Pay Information:
Range 10 ($4,904.40 $8,188.09) per month based on the current Supervisory and Professional Employees Association Salary Schedule A

Initial salary placement is commensurate with related experience and promotional rules. The District offers a comprehensive fringe benefit package including employer paid: medical, dental, and vision plans; sick and vacation leave; and opportunities for professional development. Initial Salary Placement, Promoted or transferred employees will be placed as specified in the SPAA Supervisory & Professional Administrators Association Handbook. This position is FLSA exempt and may not accrue overtime. A temporary probationary period will be applied to the employee entering this assignment.
