Description & Requirement The influenza research cluster at the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Universiti Sains Malaysia focuses on the discovery of bioactive small molecules against neuraminidases. We invite two independent and high motivated organic or medicinal chemists to apply for these positions and be a part of this exciting multidisciplinary research collaborations.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate is a recent PhD holder in organic or medicinal chemistry i.e. in the last three years. Candidates should demonstrate excellent time-management and organisation skills, and able to meet deadlines. Experiences in pharmaceutical industry (6-12 months) and conducting bioassay studies are highly desirable. Excellent communication skills in English - both oral and writing - are essential.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will work on synthesis, characterisation and evaluation of bioactive heterocycles designed as neuraminidase inhibitors to meet specific research deadlines. You will gather, summarise and report all results (including compound characterisations) on monthly basis and participate in group/cluster meetings. You will also be involved in the day-to-day running of the laboratory, and should be able to interact effectively with project heads, postdoctoral fellows and postgraduates in this fast-paced environment.
These are twelve-month posts, and are available from September 2011. Renewal for subsequent years is subject to mutual consent, research progress and the availability of funds.
