Description & Requirement Several research positions are available immediately in Dr. Maricel Kann’s Laboratory at the University of Maryland UMBC (http://umbc.edu/biosci/general/user/mkann) to develop computational approaches for the detection of protein domains and their interactions and to understand the molecular basis of diseases.
One postdoctoral position is focused on translational bioinformatics. Candidates will be expected to develop computational methodologies for the classification and clustering of molecular data related to human diseases. The ideal candidate is a highly motivated individual with a Ph.D. in computer science, mathematics, bioinformatics, or related fields. The position involves interaction with clinicians and experimental biologists in the field of cancer and pharmacogenomics. Background on structural biology and familiarity with clinical data are strong assets for this position. Non-US citizen applicants are encouraged to apply. The position is available immediately. Selection of candidates and interviews will be performed starting on August 15th and will continue until the position is filled. To apply, send an email to mkann@umbc.edu with CV, 3 publication or programming samples, a brief research interest statement, and the name of 3 references. Please use “postdoc_tbio position” in the subject.
The second postdoctoral position on computational biology requires expertise in the analysis of protein networks. Candidates will be expected to develop computational techniques for the prediction of protein interactions and analysis of protein interaction networks. The ideal candidate is a highly motivated individual with a Ph.D. in computer science, mathematics, bioinformatics, or related fields. The candidate will work in close collaboration with biophysicists and experimental biologists from several institutions. Please use “postdoc_cbio position” in the subject.
