QUALIFICATIONS:

A PhD in Strategy.

OVERALL PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

Lecture, research and provide academic leadership in the field of Strategic Management.

The Department of Management & Marketing is currently academic home to some 25 academics working in the allied fields of Business Strategy, Communications, Entrepreneurship, Marketing, Management, Knowledge Management and Project Management. It is a leading centre on the landscape of business education and enjoys an excellent reputation as a centre for teaching and learning and has a significant portfolio of programmes at undergraduate, taught postgraduate and executive education levels. In addition it has a vibrant research programme and is home to 27 Doctoral candidates, many of whom hold competitive scholarships for their doctoral research programme. Reporting to the Head of Department, the successful candidate will be expected to work collaboratively with Departmental, School, and University colleagues to achieve the teaching, research and academic leadership requirements of the role.

The appointee is expected to have:

(a)  A proven track record of teaching excellence at undergraduate, postgraduate and executive education levels.
(b)   Experience of curriculum and programme design.
(c)  A significant research portfolio in Strategy including success in competitive research grant applications, a stream of publications in top-tier strategy journals and academic leadership in research management and post-graduate research supervisions.
(d)  A demonstrable track record in academic leadership and an ability to work in a collegiate manner within an academic team.

Specifications of the Post:

•        Teaching: The successful candidate will have a proven track record in third level teaching and will be required to teach at undergraduate, post-graduate and post-experience professional levels in Strategy.

•        Research:   The successful candidate will have a proven track record and will be expected to conduct and disseminate research through publishing in top-tier academic peer reviewed journals. In addition, he/she will seek to generate research income through appropriate grant applications to external funding agencies and, where successful in these applications, manage the research projects to completion. Furthermore he/she will mentor and develop a cadre of graduate students. Evidence of significant achievement on these fronts to date, as demonstrated by research grants awarded, papers published in top-tier international journals and postgraduate research supervisions completed will be required for appointment at this level.

•        Administration: The successful candidate will have proven academic leadership. He/she will lead undergraduate or postgraduate programmes, develop new curricula, mentor junior colleagues as appropriate, and undertake administrative responsibilities as assigned by the Head of Department.
