Research Assistant / Associate – Laboratory for Therapeutic Development, Rosalind and Morris Goodman Cancer Centre, McGill University. The Laboratory for Therapeutic Development is a newly created laboratory focused on Translational Research in Oncology. The goal of this laboratory is to accelerate oncology drug development and to find new ways to maximize the use of current and emerging targeted therapeutics. The Goodman Cancer Centre is seeking highly motivated and collaborative scientists to join our multi-disciplinary team. Job Description: The incumbent scientist will assume a hands-on role in a multidisciplinary team responsible for developing and utilizing RNAi screening technologies to identify potential drug targets, biomarkers and drug combination strategies for selected targeted oncology therapeutics. The scientist will collaborate to carry out screening then identify, characterize and validate selected targets in cell-based models. The incumbent will program and maintain instruments, conduct trouble-shooting activities and will be involved in analysis, quality control and management of large sets of data. The scientist will also perform extensive gene target validation and characterization work involving mechanistic studies of intracellular signal transduction and molecular pathways. The incumbent will be an active member of a project team, communicate results at project team meetings, and be involved in the preparation of manuscripts for publications in peer-reviewed journals. Qualifications: -MSc. or PhD in biological sciences and minimum of 3-5 years relevant experience. -Experience in mammalian tissue culture and cell-based assay development (drug combination studies an asset). -Experience with HTS assay development/optimization, and experience using robotics or automated liquid handlers. Experience screening with RNAi technologies and data management an asset. -Experience involving any of the following qRT-PCR, development of in vitro biochemical and/or enzymatic assays, immunological techniques including FACS & IHC staining, immunoprecipitation & Western blotting in a target validation context. The ideal candidate is a highly motivated and collaborative team player, with excellent organization, analytical, verbal/written communication and computer skills. Start Date: Sept 1st, 2010
