Description & Requirement BRAIN TUMOR RESEARCH
Postdoctoral Scientists
Radiation Oncology Brain Tumor Laboratory
Department of Radiation Oncology and Comprehensive Cancer Center,
University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB)
The Radiation Oncology Brain Tumor Laboratory at the University of Alabama at Birmingham is recruiting exceptional and highly motivated Postdoctoral Scientists to expand efforts in basic and translational brain tumor research, addressing the molecular biology and resistance to therapy of human brain tumors in the laboratory of Dr. Markus Bredel.
We are looking for outstanding candidates with proven research productivity to expand on our recently published projects (JAMA 302: 276-89, 2009 and JAMA 302: 261-275, 2009). Successful candidates will pursue research projects in areas that include:
1. Functional analysis of tumor suppressor genes and oncogenes using viral and non-viral gene delivery to identify transforming signaling pathway changes in brain tumors.
2. Identification and characterization of cancer stem cells derived from brain tumor samples and cell lines.
3. Brain tumor animal models.
We are interested in candidates with extensive molecular biology/genetics experience, including recombinant DNA technology, retroviral/lentiviral gene transfection and knockdown, cancer stem cell isolation/genetic modification, protein analyses, genotyping, primary tumor cell culture, and animal models. Candidates are expected to hold a doctoral (Ph.D.) degree in cancer biology/genetics. Candidates should have a strong desire to work in a dynamic, multidisciplinary environment.
UAB has one of the most extensive brain tumor research programs nationwide. The UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center is internationally recognized as a leader in the field of cancer research. The Comprehensive Cancer Center Neuro-Oncology Program is a leading member of national brain tumor clinical cooperative groups that are supported by the National Cancer Institute to study new, experimental treatments for patients with malignant brain tumors. The Radiation Oncology Brain Tumor Laboratory is located in the newly opened Hazelrig-Salter Radiation Oncology Facility and is dedicated to bring molecular advances in the pathogenesis and therapy of human brain tumors to clinical application. In addition to an exciting work environment, we offer a competitive salary and benefits package. UAB has been rated to be among the best academic places to work for postdoctoral scientists, with particular strengths in career development opportunities, training, and mentoring.
Interested candidates should submit via e-mail an electronic copy of their curriculum vitae, a cover letter describing their past research experience, along with complete contact information for at least three references to: Markus Bredel, MD PhD, Director, Radiation Oncology Brain Tumor Laboratory at: mbredel@uab.edu
UAB is an equal opportunity employer, all qualified candidates are encouraged to apply.
