Description & Requirement

Description:

The Department of Biostatistics at the Harvard School of Public Health and the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to be jointly advised by the Huttenhower and Parmigiani labs. This researcher will work at the interface of bioinformatics, biostatistics, and cancer biology to develop novel analysis methods for genomic data in the context of molecular epidemiology of cancer. Specially, in collaboration with the Dana-Farber Gastrointestinal Cancer Program and the Nurses’ Health Study, the successful applicant will work with a database of over a thousand colorectal tumor samples from participants in long-term prospective cohort studies, annotated with genome-wide expression data, epigenetic, clinical, and pathology measurements, and demographic and lifestyle data. Methods are needed to analyze high-dimensional genomic data in the presence of clinical and environmental confounders, to unravel the underlying molecular biology, and to apply the results to predictive modeling and prevention. The Huttenhower and Parmigiani groups work closely with the DFCI, the HSPH Bioinformatics Core, and the Biology and Public Health program, resulting in a rich environment for quantitative, computational, and laboratory collaborations.

Qualifications:

Doctoral degree in Biostatistics, Statistics, Bioinformatics, Computer Science, or a related field; familiarity with genomic data analysis and biostatistical modeling, preferably as indicated by publication record; proficiency in R and/or appropriate scripting languages; ability to communicate scientific material and collaborate well.
