Description & Requirement We are looking for an exceptional computational theorist to work as postdoctoral fellow or research associate in the group of Dr. M. Marucho at the University of Texas at San Antonio. We seek a candidate with strong computational skills and experience on biophysical modeling and scientific programming. The selected candidate is expected to be actively involved in the development and application of new statistical mechanical theories and computational approaches combined with simulation techniques for biophysical studies of complex systems. The areas of interest include the study of the molecular mechanisms governing ligand-receptor affinities and molecular recognition for elucidating the structure, function, and physiological roles of: 1- biomolecules immersed in aqueous environments; 2- ion permeation and selectivity through realistic models of biological ion channel proteins; 3- nanoparticles interacting with surfaces (membranes). Valuable skills for the job are the ability to develop high level software, proficiency on Molecular Dynamics and Monte Carlo simulations based on generalized-ensemble algorithms, and the ability to carry out analytical and numerical calculations using density functional and integral equation theories. The successful candidate will be based in the UTSA Department of Physics and Astronomy and will have the possibility to interact with other members of the Department. The appointment is initially for one year, renewable upon mutual agreement. Salary will be adjusted according to experience and productivity and is complemented by an additional comprehensive benefits package.
