Description & Requirement The Division of Hydrologic Sciences of the Desert Research Institute's (DRI's) is seeking a post-doctoral fellow to conduct research in boundary-layer hydrology in its Reno facility. The post-doc will focus on and perform the following activities:
- Quantifying mass and energy transfer across the land-atmosphere boundary;
- Assemble, field test, analyze, and document data collected using eddy covariance and scintillometry systems;
- Quantifying evapotranspiration using energy balance and remotely sensed techniques;
- Estimation of soil boundary-layer resistance using the turbulent diffusion theory.
The emphasis on developing and using field measurements and data analysis tools will augment ongoing water resource related programs at DRI, and provide key linkages to State-wide water assessments across Nevada and other arid and semi-arid regions.
REQUIRED QUALIFICAITONS
- Ph.D. with a focus on hydrology, hydroclimatology, atmospheric physics, boundary-layer physics, or a related field.
- Excellent English-language communication skills (oral and written).
- Ability to define and conduct high-quality research as part of an interdisciplinary research group.
- Ability to work independently, define tasks, fulfill project goals and meet deadlines.
- Demonstrated ability to perform research and publish results in peer-reviewed literature.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Research experience in linking physical processes and numerical models.
- Experience in large-eddy simulation models for the study of boundary-layer turbulence.
- Expertise in one or more computer programming languages (e.g. C++, FORTRAN).
Application The following materials will be required to submit/attach when you apply on-line, visit http://www.dri.edu/employment:
1. a cover letter detailing how you meet DRI’s listed educational and experience qualifications;
