Description & Requirement

SMART is a major new research enterprise established by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in partnership with the National Research Foundation of Singapore (NRF).  SMART serves as an intellectual hub for international research collaborations, not only between MIT and Singapore, but also involving researchers from the region and beyond.  At SMART, we identify and carry out research on critical problems of societal importance.  SMART is a magnet attracting and anchoring global research talent, while simultaneously instilling and promoting a culture of translational research and entrepreneurship in Singapore.  Four interdisciplinary research groups (IRGs) have been established to date: BioSystems and Micromechanics (BioSym), Centre for Environmental Sensing and Modeling (CENSAM), Future Urban Mobility (FM), and Infectious Diseases (ID).

In the Infectious Diseases IRG, you will have opportunity to work with leading investigators in novel platform technologies and their applications in the following diseases: malaria, tuberculosis, influenza and respiratory syncytial virus infections. The IRG is currently looking for a Postdoctoral Associate.

Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Associate to study cell and molecular biology of the human malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum and P. vivax. The project will focus on using a humanized mouse model as an in vivo model for human malaria parasite studies focusing both on blood stage propagation as well as liver stage development. Furthermore, a significant goal of this project is to develop a range of reliable tools to study Plasmodium cell and molecular biology from parasites obtained directly from patient samples.

We seek an enthusiastic and highly motivated candidate that has extensive experience in cell and molecular biology. Prior experience in mouse handling and cell culture techniques are highly advantageous. No experience in parasite biology is necessary. Applicants must have a PhD or postdoctoral experience in a relevant subject.

SMART offers a stimulating, collaborative and diverse working environment, as well as a competitive compensation. Interested applicants should please send a detailed resume (including publications and names of three references), post applied for, contact information, and a cover letter to: the SMART Centre HR Office (hr_recruitment@smart.mit.edu).
