Description & Requirement

BioSystems & Micromechanics Interdisciplinary Research Group (BioSyM)

The recently-launched BioSystems and Micromechanics IRG (BioSyM)  Interdisciplinary Research Group (IRG) of the MIT SMART center (http://web.mit.edu/SMART/) is seeking postdoctoral researchers in the area of experimental micromechanics of single molecules and microfluidics. The successful candidate should hold a Ph.D. degree in the area of physics, biophysics, or related engineering / science departments from a reputable university, and will become a part of the interdisciplinary research team of SMART researchers. Expertise in optics and microscopy are strongly desired. In addition, familiarity with image analysis, polymer physics, and microfluidics would be desirable.
This project will be co-advised by Professor Patrick Doyle (MIT, Chemical Engineering, web.mit.edu/doylegroup) and Professor Jie Yan (NUS, Physics, http://www.physics.nus.edu.sg/~biosmm/). The theme of the research will be aimed at coupling optical tweezers and microfluidics to study single DNA molecules in confinement and their interactions with proteins.
This position will primarily be based in Singapore, with the possibility for long stays at MIT (several months) as part of the international collaboration. Competitive compensation and support for travel will be provided. Applicants must have excellent technical, organizational, and communication skills, as well as the ability to work with other members of the team.

Applications should include a cover letter and a full CV/resume, together with names and contact information for up to three references. Please submit applications via email to both pdoyle@mit.edu and phyyj@nus.edu.sg.
