Description & Requirement

The Pacific Northwest National Laboratory seeks a motivated post-doctoral research associate to assist with the establishment of new experimental capabilities utilizing solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance (SSNMR), including pulsed field gradient capabilities. This position will also assist with the application of preexisting and novel capabilities to investigate and to understand the detailed molecular structure, dynamics, and interactions of both bulk and surface chemical species, primarily in the field of inorganic materials important in catalysis and geochemistry. Possible postdoctoral projects will be focused in the areas of oxide surface chemistry, in-situ catalysis, environmental reactivity and pollutant sequestration, and polymer dynamics.

Must have experience with SSNMR simulations (e.g. quadrupolar line shape) using SIMPSON or similar software. Candidates must have received a PhD in chemistry, physics, or related area in the past five years from an accredited college or university, or top-notched foreign university/research institute, and have a strong background in solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance (SSNMR). Must be able to trouble-shoot hardware and software problems as they relate to SSNMR. Functional literacy with Mathematica, Matlab, Octave or similar is highly desired. Familiarity with computational chemistry software for calculating NMR chemical shielding tensors, EFG, and NBO analyses is a plus.
