The Jülich Centre for Neutron Science (JCNS) provides scientists at universities and research institutions in Germany and throughout the world with access to neutron instruments of the highest performance class.
JCNS currently has a vacancy at the American Spallation Neutron Source (SNS) in Oak Ridge, USA, for a
PHYSICIST (with PhD) (m/f) or
PHYSICOCHEMIST (with PhD) (m/f)
as an instrument officer for the Neutron Spin Echo Spectrometer
Job Description:
Involvement in the operation of the Neutron Spin Echo Spectrometer and the optimization of the operating parameters of all components, for example, as part of Forschungszentrum Jülich‘s commitment to the instrumentation of the planned European high-performance spallation source ESS
Creation and administration of your own research programme at the high-performance source of SNS
User support with a wide range of different measuring tasks
Implementation of your own experiments
Participation in the JCNS research programme with a focus on „soft matter“ and “biophysics”.
Your Profile:
A university degree in physics or physical chemistry with an above-average PhD
Interest in studying challenging scientific and technical issues
Willingness to engage in interdisciplinary collaboration with groups of Forschungszentrum Jülich and external users from research and industry
Willingness to undertake official travel (e.g. in the context of conducting experiments at other research neutron sources)
Excellent command of written and spoken English
Well-structured and systematic working method.
