MELLICHAMP CHAIR IN SYSTEMS BIOLOGY
DEPARTMENTS OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERING & ELECTRICAL AND COMPUTER ENGINEERING
UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA, SANTA BARBARA


The Departments of Mechanical and Electrical/Computer Engineering at the University
of California, Santa Barbara seek to hire a highly creative and productive individual
to fill a Mellichamp Chair in Systems Biology, made possible by a generous gift by Duncan
and Suzanne Mellichamp. Candidates at all levels and in all areas of Systems Biology will
be considered, with preference given to candidates who incorporate an experimental element
to their research.

UCSB is emerging as a leader in the field of Systems Biology. Current efforts focus on
the computational modeling, simulation, analysis, and mechanical manipulation of biological
networks, bio-image informatics, as well as the development of new sensors/devices for
biomolecular analysis. A number of important biological processes are under investigation,
including gene regulation, protein translocation, bioadhesion, and cellular mechanosensation.

The Systems Biology program is supported by superb interdisciplinary research and education
centers on campus, including the Center for Control Dynamical Systems and Computation,
the ARO-sponsored Institute for Collaborative Biotechnologies, the California NanoSystems
Institute, the Center for Stem Cell Biology and Engineering, the Neuroscience Research
Institute, the Materials Research Laboratory, Center for Bio-image Informatics, and the
Kavli Institute for Theoretical Physics.
