Duties: The Department of Geography is seeking a full-time Lecturer in the Master of Professional Studies in Geospatial Information Sciences (MPSGIS) Program - www.geog.umd.edu/gis, which is dedicated to providing the most up-to-date training on geospatial technology, theory and applications. The program curriculum covers spatial analysis, spatial statistics, programming, modeling, remote sensing, digital image processing, spatial databases, and Internet GIS. The major responsibilities of the position consist of both teaching courses and advising students.
This position is expected to start in the spring 2011 semester. Salary is commensurate with experience.
Qualifications: The minimum requirements of qualification include: (1) the candidate must have a Ph.D. degree in geography or a related discipline by time of appointment; and (2) the candidate must be broadly trained in geospatial sciences (i.e. GIS and remote sensing) to be able to provide advanced teaching in this field.
Preferences are given to the candidates who have: (1) teaching experiences at college-level; (2) strong programming skills; (3) practical knowledge of ESRI products and IIT’s ENVI; (4) working experiences in industry or government sectors; and (5) project management experiences.
