Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
The Institute of Applied Agriculture (IAA) invites applications for a 9-month Agricultural Business Management Lecturer position. The IAA is a 60-credit academic certificate program in the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources at the University of Maryland, College Park. The IAA provides students with the entrepreneurial and technical skills needed to manage profitable agricultural enterprises including golf courses, boarding stables, sports fields, landscape companies and farming operations.

The University of Maryland, College Park, MD, is a research extensive Land Grant institution located in suburban Washington, DC. The 1250-acre campus has excellent research libraries and Metrorail access to national and international research institutions and archives, non-profit agencies, and significant cultural landmarks.

The effective start date is August 22, 2011.  

Responsibilities:
•        Teach 6 undergraduate courses per academic year.  Primary teaching responsibilities are in the area of agricultural business management and may include the following courses:  Business Operations, Business Management, Agricultural Math, Introduction to Finance, and Agricultural Marketing.  Other courses may include Introduction to Sustainable Agriculture, Soils and Fertilizers, Crop Production Practices, and Topics in Sustainable Agriculture.
•        Develop and oversee the IAA’s new program in Sustainable Agriculture.
•        Advise Agricultural Business Management majors, oversee their internships and develop industry connections.
•        Participate in department decision-making, strategic planning, and recruitment.
•        Continuous curriculum development and updating to instructional materials and integration of assessment activities into teaching practices.

Qualifications:
•        Master's degree in agriculture economics, agricultural business management or related discipline
•        2-3 years teaching experience, preferably at the post-secondary level
•        Experience in agriculture production or operation of  agricultural enterprise will be given extra consideration
