A bioinformatics/computational proteomics post-doctoral position is available in the group of Dr. Rovshan Sadygov, Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and Sealy Center for Molecular Medicine, the University of Texas Medical Branch (Galveston, TX).
This is an outstanding opportunity to obtain advanced training in developing computational proteomics methods to study biological samples from a variety of perspectives including biomarker discovery, construction of protein interaction networks and systems biology-based signal transduction. The exact choice of the topic will depend on the interests and prior training of applicant. Applicants with backgrounds in bioinformatics, computer science, statistics or physics will be well suited. Skills in problem solving and experience with C/C++ or JAVA are required. Experience in working with large-scale mass spectral data sets is highly desirable. Appointment is for two-three years with a possibility of further extension.
UTMB is located in Galveston, Texas, on a historical tropical island in the Gulf of Mexico in the greater Houston area. A rich environment for training in computational science is available, including joint affiliation with the Bioinformatics Program, the Gulf Coast Consortium in Bioinformatics, the Joint UTMB/UT-Houston Center in health informatics, and postgraduate education in computational biology.
