The mission of NPRL is to capitalize on the tremendous opportunities for developing new power generation and storage technologies through materials-based approaches, especially nanomaterials and nanodevices. NPRL develops new devices for power generation, distribution, and storage, spanning a broad range of applications, including space power systems, automotive power, renewable energy storage, and large scale distributed terrestrial systems. Some examples of targeted technologies include: nanomaterials for high energy-density lithium ion batteries, semiconductor quantum dots for high-efficiency solar cells, and advanced carbon nanotube wires and cables.
