Description & Requirement

The Coordinator, Simulation Education (GME), organizes student and resident learning activities in concert with the faculty and under the supervision of the Associate Dean for Graduate Medical Education in the University of Nevada School of Medicine (UNSOM). This individual works with faculty to develop educational activities in the Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) Simulation Center that meet the specific learning needs of a variety of learners to include high fidelity simulations, use of task trainers and use of standardized patients. This position works closely in a collaborative relationship with the Office of Graduate Medical Education, the Office of Medical Education, the NSHE Simulation Center of Southern Nevada staff, teaching faculty and learners. Development and establishment of curricular activities as well as evaluative processes of learners is a critical role for the Coordinator.
Responsibilities:
Development and Curricular Integration of Simulation Activities
Assist faculty in the development of educational activities for students and residents that will support integration into discipline specific curricula. Help design cases to be used for high fidelity simulation and tests them out on the simulators to ensure they flow and meet educational needs of the program (clerkship or residency. Add newly designed cases to the clinical case database; participate in the design of cases to be used in teaching settings with standardized patients

Recruit, Train and Evaluate Standard Patients:
Recruit and interview standardized patients for purposes of assessment and training/teaching. Coordinate and conduct training of standardized patients for low and high stakes student exams and teaching sessions includes standardized patient orientations on policies and procedures of the program
Administrative Management:
Collaborate with standardized patient education organizations such as Association of Standardized Patient Educators (ASPE) to plan and manage testing. Meet with clinical faculty to promote the use of simulation including standardized patients, high fidelity simulation and task trainers within their curricula, noting the benefits of this type of clinical experience.
Coordinate with NSHE Simulation Center support staff to ensure scheduling of simulation exercises and other details needed with integration of simulation into clerkship and residency curricula. Represent UNSOM in NSHE Simulation Center staff (sim-techs, lab assistant and director) administrative meetings. Serve as a liaison between associate dean, NSHE Simulation Center staff and UNSOM faculty in establishing UNSOM simulation activities.

Knowledge of:
Standardized patients in medical teaching and assessment purposes. Program design and development, implementation and evaluation methodology and administration
Case design and development, implementation and assessment methodology. Current medical education issues involving high fidelity simulation, standardized patients and task trainers.Medical terminology and basic non-invasive diagnostic equipment as well as a general understanding of basic physical examination.

Skills:
Computer skills using word processing, spreadsheets, and databases. Excellent interpersonal skills. Demonstration of organizational and time management skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills including public speaking
Demonstrated excellence in training and teaching.

Ability to:
Recruit, train, supervise and evaluate standardized patients
Motivate faculty to use high fidelity simulation, task trainers and standardized patients in their curricula. Work independently as well as collaboratively within a team and within the state. Coordinate and prioritize multiple tasks in meeting program goals. Be flexible and adaptable in different work situations with a variety of people.

REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor's Degree and four years or Master's Degree and two years of experience in an education/training environment and/or clinical/health environment.
