TENURE TRACK FACULTY POSITIONS IN THE COLLEGE OF EDUCATION The University of Texas at El Paso
The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) is a comprehensive, emerging Tier I Research, urban university offering bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degree programs to more than 21,000 students. UTEP has become a national leader in research, innovative educational initiatives, and community based activities of special relevance to the U.S. – Mexico border region and Hispanic populations.
The College of Education is seeking applicants who are committed to excellence in teaching, research, service, and partnerships with K-12 schools, community colleges, and faculty in the Arts and Sciences. Much of the College of Education’s innovative work is supported by large grants from the U.S. Department of Education, National Science Foundation, and the Carnegie Foundation. Applicants are required to have a doctorate at the time of appointment. The College has three departments: Teacher Education, Educational Leadership and Foundations, and Educational Psychology and Special Services.
THE DEPARTMENT OF TEACHER EDUCATION offers graduate and undergraduate courses, including a PhD in Teaching Learning and Culture. It has a field-based teacher preparation program. Teaching appointments include supervising and directing graduate research, grant writing and collaboration with other professionals. The Department seeks three Associate or Full Professors in the following specializations and with the following verifiable qualifications:
• Bilingual/Biliteracy/ESL: Candidate should have experience teaching undergraduate and graduate courses that integrate theory, best practices, and professional standards in Bilingual/Biliteracy/ESL education, and should be experienced in supervising and directing graduate research. An earned doctorate in Bilingual Education/Biliteracy/ESL or a closely related area is required, as is evidence of a clear research agenda in one or more of these areas. The successful candidate will have experience working with culturally and linguistically diverse learners and be confident in the use of innovative learning technologies. Academic competence in Spanish is highly desired. • Educational Technology: Candidate should have a Doctorate in Educational or Instructional Technology and be experienced with the instructional uses of distance learning and distance learning tools, including WIKIs and other online collaborative tools, content management and delivery environments (especially Blackboard), and web-enhanced multimedia learning. Documented experience and understanding of Educational Technology pedagogy with proficient skills in the latest tools. Clear research agenda and scholarly focus is essential. • Science Education: Candidate should have a Doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction, Science Education or similar and be experienced with the instructional uses of constructivist and inquiry-based learning pedagogies, distance learning, and online course tools (especially Blackboard). Documented experience and understanding of science education pedagogy and an understanding of special needs populations, especially minority, multicultural, and second-language learner environments. Clear research agenda and scholarly focus is essential.
THE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATIONAL LEADERSHIP & FOUNDATIONS offers an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership and Administration, two Master’s degrees in Educational Administration, and a principal and superintendent certification program. To enhance the curricular offerings, future research activities, and grant funding pursuits of the Department, we seek one Senior Associate or Full Professor in Higher Education with the following verifiable qualifications:
• Candidate must have a doctorate from a nationally accredited institution with specialization in higher education or related academic discipline with an emphasis in one or more of the following areas: higher education policy, community college administration and leadership, higher education finance, and program evaluation. The ideal candidate will show evidence of a research agenda, experience in higher education administration, and a background of effective teaching and research at the graduate level, as well as the ability to sustain a program of scholarly activity and a commitment to pursue external funding.
THE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATIONAL PSYCHOLOGY AND SPECIAL SERVICES offers programs at the Master’s level in special education, educational diagnostics, and community/agency and school counseling. The Department provides the content course for the generic special education specialization in the undergraduate bachelor’s degree. The Department seeks one Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor in Special Education with the following verifiable qualifications:
• Candidate should be experienced in teaching undergraduate/graduate courses in special education. Have earned a Doctorate in Special Education, at least three years of public school teaching experience with students with disabilities, documented record of and potential for research, grant writing skills, and ability to work collaboratively with other professionals. Interest and skills in secondary special education, mathematics/science instruction, and transition are desirable.
