The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. degree in Physics, Chemistry or an engineering field from a prestigious US department (if foreign, candidate must be able to attend an interview at Maryland). The candidate's PhD work should focus on solid state physics and electrical/thermal characterization of materials. Priority will be given to candidates with experience with vacuum systems (CVD and PLD reactors, cryogenic temp measurement systems). To submit an application please visit the laboratory website at www.ireap.umd.edu/materials/

The research mission is to understand and exploit interactions between inorganic nanoscale objects and their chemical and physical environment. Our efforts involve chemical synthesis, materials characterization, and proof-of-principle devices fabrication. we employ a variety of materials systems, including plasmonic nanoparticles, semiconductor nanowires, porous oxides and polymers.
