BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the supervision of the area Dean, coordinates delivery of instructional materials in alternate formats for students with disabilities; conducts workshops, presentations, and provides technical assistance to RCCD faculty and staff in face-to-face and group environments; participates in both District and statewide committees; and evaluates student needs and provides training in the area of Assistive Technology.

EDUCATION:
A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in a related field is required.

EXPERIENCE:
At least three years experience with adaptive computer technology (software and hardware), as a user or computer technician is required. Experience using microcomputers is required. Experience with higher education information systems is desired.

KNOWLEDGE OF: Title V, ADA, and Section 504; techniques and procedures for identifying academic accommodation needs resulting from educational limitations of a disability; emerging technologies which could minimize the impact of a disability in an educational setting; academic requirements for community colleges and accommodation requirements at four-year institutions; community college student services and academic policies and procedures; State and Federal requirements concerning programs for disabled students; building code regulations concerning architectural and programmatic barriers to the disabled; public agencies dealing with the disabled; relate, for students, job market and career trends and concomitant to the technologies available as an accommodation; community college operations; and microcomputer uses for disabled students.

ABILITY TO: Work effectively with faculty from diverse disciplines; demonstrate experience working with individuals and faculty to customize solutions for students with a disability in a complex technology environment; demonstrate the need to incorporate assistive technology in all classes to benefit all students ? not just those with disabilities; demonstrate expertise and experience training, leading, and coordinating collaborative organizational efforts in support of a high technology assistive initiative for disabled students; establish and maintain effective relationships with staff, students, and others; plan, organize, and direct operational activities; prioritize workload and conflicting demands; read, interpret, and apply policies, laws, rules, and regulations pertaining to disabled students; act as a liaison between college and community agencies on behalf of students with disabilities; accurately complete data and prepare reports; develop procedures; deal effectively with a wide variety of personalities and situations using sound judgment; pay close attention to detail; work under pressure with frequent interruptions; exercise flexibility; establish and maintain effective working relationships with others inside and outside the organization; communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; maintain confidentiality; and work variable hours including some evenings.

Duties and Responsibilities:
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
1. Coordinates timely delivery of instructional materials for students with disabilities.
2. Provides workshops, presentations and technical assistance to RCCD faculty and staff, in face-to-face and group environments, about ours and their responsibilities regarding providing access to students with disabilities both online and in the classroom. Workshops outline the laws dictating accessibility, how this can be accomplished, hands-on instruction and evaluation.
3. Conducts outreach presentations to external agencies, including the Riverside County Offices of Education and area high schools, about DSP&S services to its students with disabilities.
4. Participates in a variety of campus and advisory committees.
5. Coordinates activities including analysis, specification, testing, training and documentation associated with system enhancements and development efforts.
6. Installs, configures and maintains access technology throughout the district.
7. Provides ongoing training and instruction in the use of assistive technology for students with disability.
8. Maintains effective communication with campus departments (Instructional Medical Center, Open Campus, and Information Services) in relation to accessible dissemination instruction materials.
9. Participates in weekly staff meetings and with supervisor as needed.
10. Participates in District-provided in-service training programs.
11. Maintains a friendly, supportive atmosphere for students, staff, faculty, and the public.
12. Performs other duties, related to the position, as assigned.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

SALARY: Salary grades consist of nine steps. A new employee is normally placed on Step 1 of the grade. Changes in step placement take place on the first day of the first month following the anniversary date of attaining permanent classified employee status until the maximum of the grade is reached.

HOLIDAYS: There are 13 holidays observed each year. A pro-rata reduction will be made for employees working less than full-time and less than twelve months.

VACATION: Employees are granted 12 days of vacation per year through the first five years of service to the District; 15 days after completion of five continuous years of service to the District; 20 days after completion of ten continuous years of service to the District; and 22 days after completion of 15 continuous years of service to the District. This computation is based on full-time, twelve-month employment. A pro-rata reduction will be made for employees working less than full-time and less than twelve months.

SICK LEAVE: One day of sick leave for each month of service is granted. This is based on full-time, twelve-month employment. A pro-rata reduction will be made for employees working less than full-time and less than twelve
months. There is no limit to the number of days of sick leave which may be accrued.

FRINGE BENEFITS: The District provides a health and welfare benefit package for employees and legal qualifying dependents. Those employees working less than full-time and less than twelve months will receive a pro-rata share of the benefit package. The dollar value of the package is a subject of negotiation between the District and the Bargaining Unit.

The work location and assignment within a job classification is determined by the District and may be subject to change.
