Description & Requirement Carlow University seeks a developing thought leader in ethics to assume the Michelle R. Atkins Endowed Chair for Ethics across the Curriculum. This is a full-time, tenure track faculty position.
The Chair will be situated in the School of Management and report to the Dean of the School. They will lead curricular design initiatives in a digital learning environment with faculty colleagues to integrate ethics into undergraduate and graduate programs of study. The Chair will serve as a thought leader in current and developing ethical issues for their colleagues. Thus, a candidate is sought who is an emerging scholar-practitioner able to span disciplinary boundaries. The individual will develop a University agenda to increase ethics awareness that includes planning seminars and conferences focused on a critical contemporary ethical issue(s) and providing cooperative outreach locally and nationally. The position comes with teaching responsibilities including teaching an ethics course at a graduate level in the School of Management. The successful candidate will be expected to present locally and nationally at recognized conferences and seminars dealing with ethics and contribute to the ethics literature.
The Chair requires an innovative, dynamic, and imaginative scholar-practitioner with a broad/pluralistic approach to ethics education and an eagerness to be part of a vibrant learning community.
The successful candidate will possess the following attributes: (1) a terminal degree in one of the following or related disciplines: Philosophy (ethics); Psychology (moral development); Social Sciences (comparative cultural values); Biological Science (ecology, genetics, health care); Law(legal standards/codes); Public Policy (regulatory controls); or Business Ethics (2) knowledge of current trends and issues in ethics; (3) excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills; (4) an interest in advancing the use of educational technology; (5)a demonstrated commitment to serving a diverse learning community, fostering an inclusive environment where everyone is valued and respected, and working effectively within an environment that values shared governance; (6) a commitment to the values of liberal education and to the mission and Catholic identity of the University. The successful candidate will possess the following attributes: (1) a terminal degree in keeping with a senior-level administrative position; (2) administrative experience in higher education equivalent to the level of director or higher; (3)demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with faculty, administration, department chairs, staff, other campus personnel, and external constituencies; (4) experience in assessment of program outcomes and demonstrated ability to bring complex projects to successful completion; (5) excellent advocacy, resource management, and planning skills; and (6) a commitment to the values of liberal education and to the mission and Catholic identity of the University.
