Faculty Position Openings

Kookmin University in Seoul Korea invites applicants for non-tenure track full-time professor positions beginning in March 1st, 2010. We seek individuals with demonstrated excellence in scholarship, teaching, and professional experience to apply for faculty positions.

1. Positions and Fields
●Non-Tenure Track, Full-Time Professors (only for applicants of foreign nationality)
 
Entrepreneurship and Technology Management  ● Ph.D
Interior Design                             ● M.A. or higher
Fashion Design                              ● M.A. or higher/Korean communication ability required

2. Qualifications
 -Applicants should be in good legal standing and meet all requirements of the Private School Act. All applications will be carefully reviewed and cross-referenced to insure the recruitment of the most qualified candidates.
-Degree conditions: Refer to qualifications for each department listing
• Master's degree : Applicants are required to have a Master's degree in the relevant field at the time of registration. (Prospective graduates are not allowed to apply.)
• Doctoral degree : Applicants are required receive a doctoral degree in the relevant field by August 31st, 2010. (Proof of documents required before the second stage review begins or, the appointment will be cancelled.)
-Applicant must be able to lecture in English.

3. Application
A. Period: April 07, 2010 (Wed) 10:00 ~ April 22, 2010 (Thu) 5:00

B. Required Documents:
* An application with a recent photograph (passport size): download the Application Form (refer to the attached file)
* The application form includes
- Qualifications and Employment Experience
- Teaching Experience
- A Reference and Summary of Published Research within the Last Five Years
- Cover Letter

C. How to Apply:
* Only through the Internet (www.kookmin.ac.kr):
- Download and type in the application form from the website (www.kookmin.ac.kr).
- Click the button "On-Line Apply"at the bottom and register by entering your name and alien-registration number or passport number.
- Fill out the basic information and upload the Application Form.
- Check and confirm if your registration was successful by logging into the website for "Registration of the Application for Full-time Professor"

4. Applicants who are found eligible in the first stage review will be asked to mail the following additional documents for the second stage review:

A. Additional Documents
- Two passport-sized photos (write your field and name on the back).
- All degree certificates and all undergraduate and graduate transcripts (Sealed).
- All career certifications. The certifications should be issued or reissued within the last 3 months.
- Two letters of recommendation
- Research Papers and Books
※ Dissertation paper for the final degree, papers and publications of research achievements.
Applicants in the areas of Interior Design, Fashion Design, Orchestral Instrument, Painting, Sculpture, Theatre & Cinema, Dance, and Architecture may include a portfolio of creative items and VTR tapes for performances and exhibitions in addition to the dissertation paper for the final degree, research papers, and publications. As for performances and exhibitions, related materials such as pamphlets or brochures should also be submitted.
※ Papers unpublished or planned to be published will not be counted.
- During the second stage review, relevant committees of each Dept. and major subjects may request additional documents.

B. Method of submission and period: Submit by post or in person. Successful applicants in the first stage review will be given separate notices as to the submission period.

C. Place of submission: Place of submission will be listed on the notifications given to the successful applicants in the first stage review.

5. Review procedure and schedule
A. Preliminary review: Suitability for necessary qualifications, research achievements and qualitative standards of education and research history, and aptitude to major subject.
B. First stage review: Aptitude to major subject and academic achievements.
C. Second stage review: Qualitative level from an academic point of view, quality and aptitude as a teacher, presentation skills, etc. Separate practical tests may be required for art and physical education areas.
D. Final interview: Final interview will consider all results of all stages.
※Each stage of review will be given to those applicants successful in the previous stages.

5. Method to fill the Application for Full-time Professor
※ On page 1, under "Division of Application," mark "0" on either division of tenure track or non-tenure track.
A. Qualifications and career
(1) Limited to career qualifications with official certifications.
(2) List history of education, research, and practical affairs by date. Dates of entrance and resignation shall be provided. If currently employed, note "currently employed" in the box of date of resignation.
(3) Careers unrelated to education and research will be considered irrelevant. Practical affairs unrelated to major will be considered irrelevant, too.
(4) Give part-time lecturer history by term in the box of <Lecturer's Career>. If lectures were conducted at various universities during same term, give the total number of hours lectured at those universities on the left. If lectured for 2-year and 4-year universities during the same term, give the details for 2-year universities separately.
(5) Career related items are critical information that can affect the decision of position/rank upon employment, so a detailed description without any omission is required.

B. List of research achievements and abstracts
(1) <List of research (performances, exhibitions) achievements>: Will be limited to articles or papers published in academic journals, books, degree dissertations, and symposium presentations published within 5 years (2005.04.23~2010.04.22) as of the deadline for registration of Application for Full-time Professor. As for applicants in the areas of Interior Design, Fashion Design, Orchestral Instrument, Painting, Sculpture, Theatre & Cinema, Dance, and Architecture, performances or exhibitions are to be included.
However, the following may not be included :
-articles or papers in Universities' Nonchong(collection of papers published by universities or university institutions). If the collection is registered in the list of accredited journals of National Research Foundation of Korea, you may include them.
-research reports sponsored by public or private agencies
-articles or papers in festschrifts
-contributions to newspapers
-commentary or book reviews
-contributions to periodicals and so on

(2) <List of Research Fund Achievements >: Will be limited to those attained within 5 years (2005.04.23 ~ 2010.04.22) as of the deadline for registration of Application for Full-time Professor.
(3) <Summary of research (performances, exhibitions) achievements>: Summarize the research achievements in the order they appear in the <List of Research (performances, exhibitions) Achievements>. In the box of Contents, describe the abstracts or summary of achievements. As for performances and exhibitions, describe themes, features and main activities.
(4) If the applicant is a main or corresponding author, give his/her name in the box of "Researcher." If the applicant is a general/ co-author, give his/her name in the "Joint Researcher."

6. Other Matters of Attention
A. General schedule for new faculty recruitment may change due to the university's affairs.
B. Application for Full-time Professor will not be accepted if inaccurate or incomplete.
C. Dual application to fields for new recruits is not allowed and if violated, application to all other areas will be disqualified.
D. False information as to education, career, or degree or failure to submit required documents by due date will cause termination from review and employment even if a position has already been offered.
E. As for certification on education, date of entrance and date of degree awarded should be provided. For certification on career, dates of entrance and resignation should be indicated. The certification should not exceed 3 months from the date of submission.
F. As for foreign language transcripts (English excluded), authorized translated versions with a signature of the applicant must be attached together with the address of the relevant organization.
G. The university is not liable for any inconvenience given to applicants who have submitted erroneous contact details (e-mail included).
H. Overall notification to applicants in the process of review shall be made via e-mail and the final stage interviewees will be individually notified.
I. Research achievements and relevant certification submitted in the second stage review will be returned to the contact details (address) registered by applicants after all reviews are completed. Thus it is advised to ensure the accuracy of your address.
